Hi

I will be applying for Citizenship next month, and I was wondering if it would be possible to legally change my name before applying, and if this could somehow affect my Citizenship application. I currently have a double surname (the first one is from my father's family and the second one from my mother) and I would like to drop, my father's family name, for example, my current name is Jane Smith Jones but I want to change it to Jane Jones. Has anyone gone through this kind of process while applying for Citizenship?

Thanks

I changed my legal name before applying for the citizenship of Canada. I just attached the name change certificate to the application. One more thing that I would you like to know is that it would be better for you to get your ID showing your new legal name.

I have heard that they may ask your current passport with the name change. May be better to wait for citizenship and then change it on the new passport.

Hi here is my situation if you can please help me out
I legally changed my name(changed last name after marriage), got it changed it on Passport,PR card by submitting name change documents to IRCC. Now as i am going to apply for citizenship when they ask to put name as shown on landing paper and last PR card
And i have different names on landing paper and PR card . Landing paper shows my previous name and PR has my new last name . Which name should i write there??? Previous name or new?
and also in citizenship application it is asked if you changed name since becoming PR. Which option to select here yea or no, As I submitted all name change documents when i changed my PR card, assuming IRCC has my new name in their system.

I made a name change and updated my Canadian Ids with new name inlcuding PR card and applied for citizenship. My passport is of course from my country of origin and was not able to update the name change as it is complicated to do name change in my country. Is my application correct?
