I am a US citizen, I came to British Columbia one year ago and got married here. When I got married, I decided to keep my own last name, but now I would like to change it to my husband's.
On the BC Government website, it says you can take your spouse's last name after marriage without legally changing it, and you can change your passport, drivers license etc. by providing your marriage certificate. But will this also work for changing my US passport, drivers license etc., even though my maiden name is on my marriage certificate (and my marriage license)?
Also, will it make any difference if my marriage certificate is one year old?
Thanks in advance
