Your Duties & Responsibilities as a Dairy Farmer

Farm Maintenance:
● Maintain farm facilities, including barns, milking parlors, and storage areas.
● Oversee fencing, water supply systems, and general farm infrastructure.
● Manage pasture and crop production for animal feed, ensuring sustainable practices.
Animal Care:
● Provide proper nutrition, including balanced diets and clean water.
● Ensure the health and well-being of dairy animals, including cows, goats, or sheep
● Monitor animals for signs of illness or injury and administer veterinary care as needed.
Milking Operations:
● Monitor milk quality and quantity, and ensure compliance with health and safety
regulations.
● Oversee the milking process, ensuring it is done hygienically and efficiently.
● Maintain milking equipment and ensure it is in good working condition.
Herd Management:
● Record and track the reproductive cycles, health records, and milk production of each animal.
● Perform regular vaccination and deworming routines.
● Manage breeding programs to maintain herd health and productivity.
Compliance and Record Keeping:
● Comply with food safety standards and participate in quality assurance programs.
● Maintain accurate records of production, health, and breeding.
● Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal regulations regarding dairy farming.
Financial Management:
● Explore markets and negotiate prices for the sale of milk and dairy products.
● Manage expenses, such as feed, veterinary care, labor, and equipment maintenance.
