My current passport will expire by the end of 2018. Is it recommended to get a new one before submitting my citizenship application?

It all depends on the date you will submit your application. It is recommended to keep your passport up-to-date, so there is no questioning from IRCC as to why you have a gap in passports. If your passport expires after you submit your application I do not see how that affects your application at all. If it expires during the processing of your application, just renew it. I do not believe you can renew a passport unless it is close to its expiration date, unless you get a new one because it has been stolen, lost, damaged, in which case you have to declare your passport as such and that will lead to complications. Nothing says you have to have a current passport to apply for citizenship. It only says that you need to be prepared to explain why you have not renewed it.

Hi,

My passport was expired in May, 2017. I'm planning to send my citizenship application later this month. Do I need a new/valid passport before I apply?

Thanks
KK
