What is the alternative for not giving your address right away? In case you stay at a hotel/guest house and do not have a permanent address upon landing?

Unfortunately I don't know the correct answer to this question, as I wasn't in this situation myself. I believe they do require a residential address for the PR cards to be sent out. If you don't have that then I'm unsure what the best option would be.

Thanks for sharing your experience. What about your Goods Accompanying and Goods to Follow List? Did the customs not ask you about those?

I asked about things to be brought into into Canada later, and I was told that I would need to give the list of valuables when the items were being shipped, but nothing was required at the time of landing.

My wife & I, also had a wonderful landing experience at Toronto in the month of October 2016. The process hardly took half an hour and the officials at the immigration, were extremely polite and helpful.
We were asked a local address and we provided it. We had also declared the funds that we were carrying. Despite all the formalities, it seemed to be a super smooth process and the officials looked very inviting!

Oh ok. Because I'm under the impression that if you're bringing in goods at a later time, you need to declare all those items at your initial time of landing in the Goods to Follow List. The customs will then stamp that Goods to Follow List then and there so that you can bring those items to Canada at a later time, duty/tax free. People on this forum have said that if you don't declare the Goods to Follow List and have it stamped, then the items you bring in later will be taxed.

He also advised that the counter usually opens around 8 AM, so if the counter was still not open after the luggage collection then proceed to the customs area just before the exit gate. The landing procedure would be completed there.

I collected the luggage and checked if the new immigrants area was open. It was still closed, so I went to the customs area with my family.

I thought the landing at the new immigrants counter was before collecting your luggage?? So you go all the way through immigration, downstairs, collect your luggage and then to the counter for your landing? That doesn't make sense? Then anyone could just exit the airport?
Can someone clarify?

After collecting luggage from an international flight, you always have to go through one last customs check where they take your declaration from you. They will tell you to go through customs screening if necessary. You can't just walk out after collecting your luggage.
