Ok this probably has already been discussed on the forum, but for some reasons I can't find the topic.

I came to Canada 1 year and a half ago, on a 6 month open work permit issued by my country of citizenship - working holiday visa.
My boyfriend came with me, with the same visa.

He found a job that sponsored him - so I was sponsored as well as his common-law partner.

I got an open work permit and he got an LMO and work permit linked to his work place.

Now he left me, what happens to my visa?

Please help as I am going through one of the hardest moment of my life :(

My understanding is that you can work until your existing OWP expires. After that, you must either transition to another visa class (visitor, student, closed WP+LMO) or return "home".

just called CIC and they confirmed I can keep working...so why my two lawyers told me I'd lose my visa...and they even advised me not to leave the country!!!!

called again and spoke with another operator, that told me the same...I can keep working...
are you kidding me...and these are supposed to be the best layers in town...?

as per my knowledge the day your partner left you have lost your visa status because you have received your OWP because he has sponsored you when he himself is not with you whats the question of OWP?

Not sure how the OWP works. If the sponsorship get cancelled, the OWP is suppose to get cancelled as well since it is linked to PR sponsorship. However if it doesn't, you can legally work until your OWP expires. You won't be able to extend it if PR application gets cancelled.

This is only my thought as I haven't observed or read any post related to your situation.

This whole thread is in the wrong section of the forum, and it's caused confusion as a result. This is nothing to do with PR sponsorship. It's about the Spousal Open Work Permit for a dependent of a TFW.

Maybe they are trying to convince you that you have a difficult situation and you need to hire them and pay a lot to "fix" your situation.

That's what I was thinking, at least until your OWP expires. Did you inquire what happens then? Cause I'm thinking that after two years of reportable hours worked in Canada, is that not enough to apply for PR?? Notwithstanding your unique situation however.
