Moving to Montreal

Discussion in 'Settlement Issues' started by Rupa Dantuluri, Sep 17, 2019.

  1. Hi ,

I have got my copr through express entry and my city of destination is - Calgary .
From my home country I got offer in Montreal and plan to work there asap .

    My questions :
    1. Can I land in Toronto and apply PR / sin ?
    2. Can I then travel to Montreal on very next day ? As my date of join in Montreal is nearing .
    3. Will this kind of moving have any repercussions ?
    4. Health insurance where to apply ? Montreal or Toronto ?

    Thank & Regards ,
    Rupa D
  2. I assume that you did not have pnp
    1. Yes, although you will be asked for an address in Toronto for your PR card delivery.
    2. Yes
    3. Yes, unless you had pnp. Once landed, you are free to move to any place.
    4. Montreal, plan to have your own insurance until public health coverage starts (usually after 3 months)
  3. Thanks for your reply. Yes i dont have PNP.

    Another question .
I plan to move from home country to montreal via toronto.
I plan to have layover in toronto , finish immigration in toronto port of entry.

What question they will ask in toronto port of entry.
What question they will ask in montreal ?
  4. You are asking for trouble if you are flying to Montreal with a layover in Toronto. It will be very clear that you are actually going to Montreal.

  5. Can I say I am staying at relatives house ( which I am )
Do they check boarding pass at port of entry .
  6. Yes they could. They could also go through your luggage and electronics. There was recently someone who was denied PR for exactly what you are planning on doing. He landed and was denied PR when it was clear he was heading to another province to work and not attempting to settle in his PNP province.
