I have been working in US on H1B. Recently me and my wife moved to Vancouver, Canada for my wife's job. I am on Open Work Permit in Canada. My employer in US wants to retain me, so they are working out how they can employ me in Vancouver. They have an office in Calgary.

  1. Can I work for Calgary, Alberta office remotely from Vancouver and still being full time employee in Canada? It is possible that after 2-3 years I might want to go back to US. And if I remain full time employee in Canada, I will be eligible for Intra-Company transfer (L1).
  2. If first option is not feasible, what other options are advisable?
  3. Is it possible to open a branch of Calgary office in Vancouver? Or An office in Vancouver has to registered as a separate business unit (still being head quartered in San Francisco, USA).

1. Yes. Calgary is still in Canada;). You will actually have to work out of the Calgary office (remotely if possible) or create an office in Vancouver since your company does business in Canada.
2. Not sure.
3. Up to your company whether they want to open a branch in Vancouver.

How about relocate and live somewhere in between Vancouver and Calgary? And then commute to work? If you choose to work in the US, that's also an option if you live in Tsawwassen and work in nearby Point Roberts?
