Hi All

We are 1 couple 2 kids moving with 8 bags from toronto to vancouver. What is best way to do it.
Should we go by air and send bags by greyhound or trucking firm ?
I believe domestic flights within canada charge high for checked in bags.

Thx

I would tally up how much it will cost you to ship the bags with the airline, then check to see how much it would cost via ground shipment. The reason that it is so expensive to check excess bags for an airline, is that when you do this, you are treating the airline as a freight forwarder, so you pay the applicable costs. Companies PAY for space to ship freight on airplanes, as well as the post office. They book to have guaranteed space, you in effect could be taking up space the airline could sell for a higher price
If you do not need some of the pieces immediately, save your money, ship by ground
If you do send by ground, ensure they have you purchased the appropriate insurance for the pieces just in the rare chance they get lost

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Even if you don't treat the airline as a freight forwarder, you won't be given a lesser rate by the airline.

So assume OP has looked at AIr Canada where 2 x 23KG checked bags are approx 90 dollars one way so 8 bags cost 360 dollars to ship 8 bags so by any other method would need to be significantly less to make it worth while or maybe the real issue would be excess baggage/charges which on Air Canada add 113 dollars per bag in the 23-32KG range. Unfortunately moving from one side of the country is never going to be a cheap exercise which ever way look at it.
