Moving between provinces - Gaps in coverage

Hello,

I recently moved from Alberta to Quebec.
My Alberta Health Card expired a few days before applying for the Quebec Health Card. The problem is that I am only eligible for coverage in Quebec starting January 1st.

My question is about who covers these gaps, when moving from one province to another? At the same time I cannot apply for the Quebec Health Card, I cannot extend my previous one either.

You are covered by the AHCIP for the balance of the month in which you leave, and for the next two consecutive months. This ensures continuous coverage until you are eligible for health insurance in your new location.

I should probably contact them, though. I did not cancel my health card, as it was about to expire anyway.
