I was offered a postdoctoral research position at university in Canada. I applied for a work permit online in the US (as a US citizen) July 25th. I assumed the online application was sent to the NY office, but I was never sure. I was encouraged to find an apartment and move to Canada by the faculty and staff at the university, so I crossed the border Sept. 12th (7 weeks after the appl was submitted). The agent at the border crossing said that in the notes of my application that it was approved pending the medical report. On Sept. 16th the online application was updated to say that I passed my medical. My address was updated with CIC to in-Canada on Sept. 11th.
Since it has now been 10.5 weeks since I submitted my application and 3.5 weeks since I crossed the border, I tried contacting the CIC Call Centre. They said my application is in the Ottawa office which is not connected to the Call Centre so they do not have access to my application. I can only email to contact them which can take 20 days to have a response.
Has anyone heard anything about this? Does Ottawa have the same processing times as an application in Canada? Should I be going by the 5 month processing time for the NY office or the 15 day processing time for in Canada? Any advice on why it is taking so long when I was told me application was approved pending medical and now the medical has been approved? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
