When you enter Canada as a visitor, you are supposed to provide proof of financial means to support yourself during the entire time of your stay. You are also supposed to provide proof of ties to your home country (i.e. return ticket, job, rental lease/mortgage, assets). A visit has a beginning and an end. Sounds like you are visiting for the purpose of living with your girlfriend to have enough time to apply for PR as a common-law couple. If you tell CBSA that when you enter you will be denied entry. And you realize that you will be unable to work in Canada as a visitor.

i know what you saying and i will be booking a return ticket and if you read i did say a visit too not going to say iam moving here just wanted to know if there was an amount of money i would need for the visit as it being 6 months so i can start saving that amount or around that amount
ive visited a few times for 2 weeks and 3 weeks so its not first time in country either so i know what they ask you when you do come for that 6 months thou iam sure they wont let me leave for 6 months and still have the job when i come back will that go against me if you are unemployed when you visit as surely they cant expect you too keep a job just get another when you return home

thanks

The amount you need depends on what you do, where you stay and how you live.
What did it cost you each week when you stayed on your last visit?

If you are here as a visitor, then you need to provide information to convince the IO that you intend to leave.
That may be difficult (but not impossible) if you do not have a job at home.

so if iam staying at my girlfriends house all i need is like food money really as she has everything else covered as dont have any bills over there to pay so id say about £50 a week thats about 75$ to live on should be enough easy for a week so if i say £1500 thats 4 weeks more and about 2250$ for the 6 months but how do they jugde the second 6 months when you apply while over there what do they look at as iam sure they no that then iam looking to stay there more then what kind of questions will they ask or is it just a form you fill out send and they decide without talking to you just on your profile on system and will i need another £1500 ( 2250$ ) in my account for the second as well so like £3000 when i first go over or have someone put it in my account after the 6 months has been agreed , i dont want to take too much like iam moving over there as well just enough to live on with alittle spare as well or is it just when you take over the 10,000$ thats bad as they ask you if you have over that amount ?

You don't have to bring all the money with you, just have access to it. So a bank account statement is fine. They may not even ask you about it. It all depends on what kind of screening you get at the port of entry.

Are you eligible for a youth holiday work permit? Just asking as that would allow you to stay for a year and to work as well. See here:

http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/united_kingdom-royaume_uni/experience_canada_experience/index.aspx?lang=eng&menu_id=7&menu=L

The allotted visa's go very fast so if you are eligible, apply NOW.

First things first, if you intend to visit for this length of time you will need medical cover.
I would be surprised if the IO would accept $75 a week as a means to support yourself.
Visitors that I know about usually estimate about $250 a week minimum.
Can I ask, are you a UK citizen ( i.e visa exempt) ?
Also, what is your backup plan if you are not granted a 6 month stay in the first place?

Taking over $10,000 is not bad, it just needs to be declared.
You do not have to physically carry the funds (it would be very risky), you just need access to them.

iam 31 years old and i do live in the uk so i wouldnt say iam a youth really lol ( am i )

so you saying more like £4k i need to bring then ie.. $6000
the bank iam with is hsbc so iam setting up a canada account also but i can use my card over there anyway from my uk account but should i tell them about the canada account or not and also bring a statement showing i have the money in my account
so i wont/need to bring any cash with me
to be honest not really throught about if i dont get in for the full 6 months just yet just trying to find out what i need first
does everytime i visit my girlfriend and leave on time go for me as i have shown them they can trust me more as i will be visiting her a few more times before i try for the full 6 months
also can my girlfriend have the funding for the second 6 months or is it still all on me to show them again
my girlfriend has ordered the paper work from customs about things but it takes 2-3 weeks to come
if not allowed for the 6 months will they say how long i can stay for or just say no as then i can look for a back up

I beat you on age :)

A few comments...

Most visa exempt folks get six months entry by default, as you know the actual decision is in the hands of the IO.
Of course it depends on what your history is like :)

I also bank with HSBC in many countries, to be honest there are not many branches in Canada - depends where you go.

When you arrive at the POE - if asked about funds, I tell them that I will be using my credit card and funds are automatically transferred as required (you can do that with First Direct). If they need more proof (very rare), I show a copy of a savings account statement.
Arriving and leaving on time does "prove" that you obey the rules.

What paperwork has your lady ordered, it should all be available online?

she says she cant remember what she ordered lol but was about 2 weeks ago now so might come this or next week anyway
the health insurance i can get will get a annual one so will last a year and i can start it from the date i start my visit so will last the full 12 months if they give me the extra 6 months and can renew it as well if needed it says, also does it have to be a full 12 months in 1 go or can it be 2 6 months i guess the full 12 but just throught id ask anyway

the 250$ a week seem alot as all i would have to do is help with the food as she already pays the bills herself but if you say that its best to have it than as if i dont spend it then it doesnt really matter anyway was just for a guideline to want they expect

so now i know the money i guess its just chance now and how the IO look at everything when i try i guess they know what you are doing really but have to take you on merit and the second 6 months is harder to get as well as when i went first time he said they look after there own and they know alot about me now also so not as big a fuss the first time was stressful as i wasnt expecting it at all as have been to states before and they wasnt anything like it lol

iam going to ottawa and have looked at the banks that are there ( HSBC ) but when a PR i will open my own ( local bank ) or can you do it before and also does it help if my names go on some bills when there to help with the sponsor or doesnt it matter

also ive seen you put this on other message

Why do you believe that the time is critical, I assume you are aware that you can apply for an extension to stay in Canada.
FWIW When I was given a six month visitor record, it was six months - (if issued with a start date of 5th Feb 2011, it would be dated with 4th August 2011).

so its not 6 months its like a day short really so would have to book the flights for that day as well if this is true thats good too know as i would of booked the return ticket for the 5th of august

westy

i get it now forget the dates but i would of still booked the 5th lol
too much to get head round everything all at once :)
and iam good at maths too
