Your question is pretty valid and good one! not all the phones bought from India work here. You can go online on various service providers in Canada such as Rogers, Bell, Wind etc. Mostly it's wind which doesn't go well with all the phones. Although Lumia being a new launch, so most likely it should go well, but then it's better to be prepared so check their frequencies, of your phone that it supports and the frequencies on which these Service Providers run the network.

Cheers!

The various bands are the sim carrier spectrum they use.

Check with your 525 specs if you match the bands. I think you are GSM safe. Shouldnt be a problem.
I'm on a 1020 and I'm covered too.

How these companies work... I saw on ther websites they give phones on contract basis ex. S5 for $199 2 yrs contract. But does they cover all call and data charges in 199$. Actually I want to know how all this contract process work.

The upfront device cost is $199. You will have to sign a 2 year contract and the monthly bill (depending on the plan you choose) can be between $50-70 or more. You just dnt need to pay the full cost of the device upfront, but you actually pay a lot more than the full price of S5, which may be about $600.

Can u please explain a little more..?

Say, we are getting S5 for $500 or $149 for 2 -year Contract plan.

Now if i chose $149 for 2 -year Contract plan, then i ll have to keep the phone for 2 years, pay $149 initially and then the monthly bills ($50-70)

What if i take my own phone there , then how much do the monthy bill cost?

Is it advisable to take our phone from iNDIA or get a new one there on contract basis?

there r various plans depending on the city/province ur in but if u want to buy a phone u have 2 options
1) buy a discounted phone witha 2-3 year contract which is like a binding and if u break the contract u have to pay alot more.(2 year contract = 60X24=$1440 + the cost of the phone roughly)
2) buy phone at the regular price and then shop for a cheaper plan which does not require a contract.
if u get ur own phone then u can just get a cheaper plan which can be around $20-25 per month not including data plan.
(25X24=$600)

One ques : I have got Nokia C3, a simple symbian based phone. I am not sure whether the plans in canada, wud allow me to use watsapp/ international free calling etc.. Any suggeations? I was thinking of leaving my phone back at India, and purchasing a new one from there on contract basis.

well there r various plans if u want to get a data plan/internet plan to use whatsapp then plans get costly. So here is a solution u dont take any data/internet plan u get the $25 plan and I am sure where ever u live u will most likely take wireless internet so u can set ur phone to wifi and access whatsapp etc. I am assuming ur phone has wifi capability. in most of the universities wifi is free so as long as ur in university or home u can use whatsapp if ur somewhere u cannot access wifi then u r stuck but still it is better than getting a $60-70 plan plus taxes. so my suggestion bring ur phone..if u later think of buying a better device then so be it but if u feel new device becomes expensive u will have an option to use ur existing phone.

This is for everyone, why buy an expensive contract when you can buy your phone urself and a get a plan as cheap as 39 dollars a month with Canada wide unlimited calling and 6GB data and unlimited text messages anywhere in the world. Wind offers a plan for 39 a month.

Get your own phone!

Contract will suck your blood slowly and by first year end if you do your calculation, you will realize you could have saved enough to buy three Iphones by simply not having this contract thing.
