Hi, I'm from the US and married to a Canadian. About 20 years ago I got a misdemenor. What happened was my roommate wrote a check on my bank account. It bounced, and I was stupid and thougth the bank should take care of it. About a year later I was arrested and had to pay the check. Is a sponsor/family class will this prevent me from getting my pr?

That is an interesting question. I hope someone here knows the answer (sorry that I don't) but I think this will impact many people.

Hi there,

I think you're only inadmissable if you have been indicted for an offense that could have gotten you ten years in jail for the maximum sentence. But you can also be considered "rehabilitated" if the offense was a long time ago and there's been nothing since. Here is the official version from CIC:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/enf/enf01e.pdf

They've tried to reword the legal language, but it's still a long haul. Good luck with this!
