Minors with approved Study Permits, need written authorization for accompanying parents and siblings?

Hi,

Swedish family. My two eldest children (still underage < 12) got their Study Permits approved in July. The rest of the family (me + wife + 3 year old sibling) got our eTA's approved as well. We all plan to fly to Canada together from Sweden asap for school start.

Question now is whether us parents and the little one need "written authorization" (the covid travel ban exemption) to fly from Sweden if we all travel and enter Canada together?

I have been googling and getting mixed messages, anything from "need written auth" to "not needed if fly together" to "only one parent can fly without written auth"

Anyone know?

When are you planning on traveling? That's the key question.

If you are traveling before September 7th, then you and your wife need written authorization to travel as immediate family members of minors who are coming to Canada on temporary visas. Your 3 year old doesn't meet any of the criteria for an exemption to the current travel restrictions and wouldn't be allowed to travel.

If you travel September 7th or later, then no authorization will be required and your 3 year old can come along. I would recommend traveling on Sept 7th or later.

Just to add - in making the comments above, I've made the assumption that you and your wife are fully vaccinated.

Are you aware that there are no guarantees that you, your wife and 3 year old will just be visitors and are only entitled to up to a 6 month visit which is why international students usually need a guardian/custodian in Canada. Think you may also face questions as to what your plans are if the whole family has arrived in Canada and what your ties to Sweden are like a home, how long you will be visiting Canada and how will you finance both the children’s studies and your visit.

You missed that part that states, “You must submit all of your applications together when you apply online.” So did you apply for Etas at the same time? Also your child would need written authorization because your child is not the following:

Some of your immediate family members may be able to come with you to Canada. You must be in one of the following relationships:

• you’re the spouse or common-law partner of the student
• you’re the dependent child of the student, or of the student’s spouse or common-law partner
• you’re the parent or step-parent of the student, or of the student's spouse or common-law partner
• you’re the guardian or tutor of the student

Some progress:
We parents got our written authorizations to travel approved 2 days ago. Unfortunately/oddly enough no reply on our 3 year old's application even though all three applications were sent 2.5 weeks ago together. Is this normal or cause for concern? I mean, can it be that they are too busy to even reply if not approved or do they take the time to reject? If not, why did she not get looked at?

Some more info answers to missing info above.
All five of us are travelling to Canada to live there together for a full school year. Study Permit applications specified the whole family, stating we would all live there for the whole duration, and we proved we can stay there for this time and not working etc. Parents + 3 yr old got eTA (being Swedish, Visa exempt), plan is to get 1 year Visa at border.

Question, since we worry about our 3 year old not getting an answer on her TA. Does she qualify for a written authorization to fly with us? She is immediate family to us parents and we been told that would qualify, because if not, then we would be separated.

I know it (tentatively) opens up 7 September but the children will be late for school if we wait that long.
Also, what if they do not open on 7 September, then we can't go at all?

No the 3 year old will need to get their own authorization. 1 year stay upon entry is far from guaranteed.
