After a few nervous hours I can thankfully report today that I was APPROVED for Spousal Sponsorship.

We received our AOR via email for my Sponsorship application last Friday, the 20th. We have been patiently (OK maybe not so patiently) waiting for an email confirming SA but nothing was forthcoming. I had been checking ECAS regularly but it only showed "application received", until late this morning when it said "Decision Made on March 24, 2015" - a letter has been sent to you. No! No! No! don't do that to us!! we asked for email correspondence not regular mail. We live in Mexico why would you send a letter with the results via regular mail?? Freaking out not knowing whether I was approved or not. Having had 2 previous denials (my wife) for a study permit and a visitor visa I was very worried that the letter may contain a denial for some inconceivable reason.

However, after various attempts to call CIC from Mexico to inquire as to the decision I finally got through, had to wait 16 more nervous minutes, then various confirmation questions and a step by step review of the stages of process, the kind lady finally confirmed that I met the requirements for sponsorship and was approved!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D Thank God!

I respectfully asked why they would have chose to send us the SA confirmation letter via regular mail when we had requested correspondence via email, but she said she could not give me an answer as to why regular mail was chosen despite that she could see that we had a confirmed valid email address.

Oh well, SA received!! Our file should be on its way to Mexico VO shortly if not already! Happy Days here in Manzanillo!!

Spreadsheet updated!

Best wishes to everyone!

Congratulations, CANzanillo!! Same thing happened to us, I ended up receiving AOR and SA over the phone with CIC in Mississauga and had them resend the approval to me via email. From then on all the correspondence we've received has been via email, thankfully.

Hey guys! We had some set backs today. My husband lives in a tiny town on the coast of the Nicoya peninsula in Costa rica. If you travel an hour on a bus, and take an hour and a half ferry ride you get to Puntarenas which is a bigger city. Lots and lots of people. It's a main port as well for ships and stuff, and a city that a lot of tourists have to go through to get anywhere. We both assumed without thoroughly checking that we would easily find a courier service like DHL or UPS or FedEx to send his passport to Mexico. So my husband is there it is 1:30pm and he's gone into the post office to inquire as to where he can find a DHL and is informed that there isn't one and he's got to travel to the capital for the nearest one. He calls me of course and for 20 minutes I looking online for anything remotely reputable and literally there is nothing. We are both completely shocked. Unfortunately because of how late in the day it already was he just went home because by the time he would have gotten to San Jose those offices all would have been closed. So he will go on the very very early bus Monday morning all the way to the capital, a 4 hour trip, just to mail the passport. And then hopefully he will be able to get all the way home the same day.

I felt horrible. I am very organized and I shouldn't have made an assumption like that. Ugh my poor husband spent all day travelling for nothing!

Thanks OhCanadiana!

They did give us 30 days, hoping they will extend given the circumstances. He called his municipal office back, talked to the Secretario de Ayuntamiento himself. Is headed back to the office now, they said he will still have to go to Magdalena... but they maybe can help him out and get him on the right track...

needless to say... my husband is in the dog house... he has known this is coming for sometime, he should have read the website, been prepared. We have only been preparing for this process for 2 years... I think because he has been given a passport, never had a problem getting a job, or receiving IMSS care, he didn't think it was ever going to become and issue.

So he gets this done, and then there is question of him actually doing his service or getting an exemption before leaving the country...

I hope they managed to help him!

You will definitely get the extension. Don't worry about that. Reaching out to CIC is more so they know you're working on it. CIC's procedure wouldn't allow them to deny the application right now anyway. They'd have to reach out and tell you they haven't heard from you first. And hopefully by then you'll be all set.

On the PGR, I took a look at the PGR website and Tepic doesn't have an office that processes police certificates. The offices located outside of Mexico City that processes the police certificates are listed below:

Code:
Actualmente la Procuraduría General de la República a través de la Dirección General de Control de Procesos Penales Federales en colaboración con la Dirección General de Coordinación de Servicios Periciales y de las Delegaciones Estatales de: Aguascalientes, Baja California, Baja California Sur, Campeche, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Colima, Durango, Estado de México, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, Nayarit, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala, Veracruz, Yucatán y Zacatecas, realizan el trámite relativo a la expedición de "Constancia de Datos Registrales", de conformidad con el punto Noveno del Acuerdo A/023/12, de la C. Procuradora General de la República, publicado en el Diario Oficial de la Federación, fechado con 9 de febrero de 2012, el cual señala lo siguiente:
http://www.pgr.gob.mx/Servicios/Constancia/antecedentes%20registrales.asp#

If you go to PGR website you can click on the links to get the addresses for each of those offices located in a state (vs. in Mexico City). There's also a phone number and an e-mail at the bottom of the page you could use to talk to someone.

Tepic is the capital of Nayarit, so the sede office should be able to process the police certificate. :)

Thanks! I will have to request they do that, I don't want them to get into the habit of sending correspondence by regular mail now that they have done it once. Thanks for the heads up!

I wanted to extend an invitation to the members here on the Mexico forum to check out and join the Mexi - Can Spouses group FACEBOOK page.

As the page states:

"This is a place for anyone with a Mexican Spouse to come talk about anything and everything! From the culture, to the food, immigration, and anything in between. Welcome!"

I'm going to try to post a link here. Hope that's not a problem...

Spreadsheet update:

I continue to update the spreadsheet, albeit slowly, whenever I have good internet :).

Today I added another column called: # days since SA

I am also review and correcting the formulas to ensure the calculations are correct.

Today I also added new member and username Luna21. Hopefully she will join us in this forum.

Have a great Saturday wherever you may be!

Congratulations!! This is quite normal, we don't live in Mexico, but we got an email stating that a letter had been mail to us with the result for sponsorship. We had selected to receive all communications via email too, but they sent us the paper letter in the regular mail any way.

I called again this morning to request an email be sent to me re my sponsorship approval. I explained that there was a high probability that I would not receive the letter via regular mail here in Mexico. That didn't matter. I was told that I would have to wait 4 weeks until after April 21st before I could call again and request an email to replace the regular mail SA. Nothing is easy with the government. :(

Hey everyone. Hubby is in San jose at a DHL office sending the passport and he explained that he needs to prepay so that it can be sent back to him. The DHL person then needs to know what date to go pick up the package???? He just called me and gave the guy the phone to ask me and I said...don't they call you when it's ready? And he said no. So I asked, what if you go to pick it up and it's not ready then what happens? And he said we will try three times to pick it up. Uhm ok... So it's going to arrive Wednesday the 1st so I said go pick it up on the 15th. 2 weeks should be good? Even with Easter...I don't know. And then I asked, ok you're going to have a piece of paper or something inside to show that it's prepaid to be sent back? And he says yes. And then I asked does that paper have on it the date that you will come and pick it up, will they know it needs to be ready on the 15th? And he said yes.

I am really caught off guard by this. I know most of you gus are actually in Mexico but does anyone know if this is normal procedure? Do i need to be worried here. I hope 2 weeks is long enough.

I know someone in this thread posted a while back a step-by-step process in requesting the GMCS notes but I can't find it for the life of me. If anyone knows where I can find it please let me know.
