Hi!
Good luck to you both!
You guys are lucky, you get to be together to wait it out!
My plan is to go back to Mexico in July and live with my fiancé
if we haven't gotten an answer yet. We'll just wait for his
visa over there 'cause we can't take being apart
anymore!! :'(

We are in the US and my husband hasn't been to Mexico since he was 9. He wants to go to Mexico when he gets his PR and then head to Canada. We would have to ship my cat to my parents on the pet friendliest airline. His dad is in Oaxaca and he'd like to visit him during the trip. We want to stay in a resort. I'm worried about all the violence I've heard on the news but I know you all say it's blown out of proportion. We have a 17 month old. Where do you suggest we stay? Thanks!

I don't know so much about Oaxaca, so I can't comment too much on the violence there. In my experience, I have never felt unsafe or scared in Mexico.. But I have always lived in good zones and always in Cancun which is a heavily protected city because of the tourism. My SO always told me that the danger isn't for the average person, which I personally believe is true as well.. My advice is be smart, don't do anything you wouldn't do at home, try not to go out at night, etc. You will be fine, Mexico is defiantly not as scary as the media makes it out to be (at least not what I have seen, and I have traveled to Mexico a lot) Enjoy the beauty! I love Mexico and can't wait for our next trip back :D

I don't blame you! After living with my SO for so long I know it would be extremely difficult to live without him!

Oaxaca is a nice city! Has a nice market and good chocolate!! I think Oaxaca is pretty safe right now. Just use your common sense and everyting will be fine! But if you want a resort I would definitely recommend Cancun it´s really beautiful there!

Thank you. I think Cancun would be amazing. I found some nice Oaxaca hotels but they're pricey! My husband's dad lives in a very rural area. I'm not sure the baby and I will go there. Maybe we will stay in Cancun and my husband can fly to Oaxaca.

Thanks,
yeah, I must admit it's pretty hard. We lived together for 3 years in Mexico but I've been here by
myself since August 2010 because of a job, always going back and forth to visit...really not the best for a relationship!
We tried for a work visa before and he didn't get it. If I would have known, I would have sponsored
him while we were still in Mexico >:( !! Oh well..just hoping that this time is the good one!

@ Canadiangirl, yeah you should visit Cancun, Cancun is amazing and has beautiful beaches.. or you should visit Playa del Carmen!! I love it there, it is so nice and pretty reasonable priced. It has a really cool European feel to it :) From there your husband could take a flight or the Bus (ADO is the popular bus company for Quintana Roo) to Oaxaca .. you would just have to make sure a bus goes there :)

@ memexico, Oh wow.. well hopefully your application will have a quick turn around time! A few members that recently got their PR from Mexico City waited 6 months total.. so by July he just might have it :) I would say 13 months is defiantly not the norm, but it does happen. Have you thought about getting a visitor visa for him to come here?

My husband wants to go to the yucutan peninsula. Sorry if that's misspelled. Do you think that's a good idea?

Guys, quick question:

On the IMM1344E form, the first question asks you:

If you are found ineligable to sponsor, indicate whether you want to:

withdraw or proceed?

I feel like this is a trick question??? Which one do you choose lol

Yes! My SO says its so beautiful there.. and a very low crime rate so it will give you some piece of mind :) Merida comes to mind as a good place to visit, not sure about resorts in the area though,

Withdraw. Otherwise you can't appeal or something. The instructions should explain.

Thanks! That's good to know. A hotel would be ok rather than a resort. I just want to stay somewhere nice. I have to admit I'm still very nervous about taking the baby to Mexico with all the news stories I've read!

Read this article, it might give you a different perspective than the ones you normally read:
