So we still haven't gotten my husband's passport back from the embassy (we sent it in a week ago) but today his online status changed to decision made. They also changed all his address information to my address here in Canada :D I'm pretty sure this is a very good sign!! Only 12 more days till I go to Puerto Vallarta to see him and bring hopefully bring him home with me!!!

It took us three weeks to get my wife's passport back. The immigrant visa was issued on the 4th of April and we got her passport back a week later.

Hi everyone,

I am living Venezuela now, and need to mail my passport to Canada-Maxico embassy to get Visa. (Decision made)

I need to mail my passport along with the pre-paid return waybill.

I asked Zoom Express which located in my close area, obviously they are not clear with the pre-paid return waybill stuff because they simply said I can request to pay at the end. I don't think the Embassy will do that for me.
Please, anyone have the similar status and share with me? Or any suggestion?
I very appreciate for your help!

are there any other companies that will ship to mexico, like DHL? or fedex?

Yes, There are DHL and Fedex,
But I can't get more detail information about pre-paid waybill on their websit.
Not sure if they provide this service or not.

we use dhl all the time, from within mexico and from canada to mexico and back.
They are really good about prepaid waybills.
u should try and call them and ask them about it or stop by the store and see if they know.

Cuz im not sure how else u would do it, they need the prepaid waybill to send ur passport back to u, and they wont make any payments.

Im not even sure if they will allow to send an envelope "collect"

hmm. but try giving dhl or fedex a call and see if they can do it for you!

Thank you for your information.

I am going to call DHL tomorrow. DHL office is a little far from my location. Wish they willingly come to pick up my shipment.

Im not sure about the marriage certificate.
But i know the birth certificate has to be original.
On the application guide it should tell u what documents need to be original and what can be photocopies

It says CERTIFIED copies but I dont know if I should send those to Legalize or just to the notary and then translations.

We took ours to a certified translator. One that was registered with BC.
So when she translated it, it was stamped and sealed to "certify" that it was original copies.

But if thats not an option. I think u can get it professionally translated and have a notary certify it as well. But someone correct me if that statement is wrong!

I already took them to the notary and then Im gonna take to the translator.
By any chance do you have a link of registered translators for Mexico? I live in Mexico City thought.

I want to know if the legalization is completly necessary cause it´s expensive. :-[

Make sure you read and practically memorize guide 3999 when putting your application together - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3999Etoc.asp

"Translation of documents

Any document that is not in English or French must be accompanied by:

the English or French translation; and
an affidavit from the person who completed the translation; and
a certified copy of the original document.

Note: An affidavit is a document on which the translator has sworn, in the presence of a commissioner authorized to administer oaths in the country in which the translator is living, that the contents of their translation are a true translation and representation of the contents of the original document. Translators who are certified members in good standing of one of the provincial or territorial organizations of translators and interpreters of Canada do not need to supply an affidavit.

Important information. Translations by family members are not acceptable.
Certified true copies

To have a photocopy of a document certified, an authorized person must compare the original document to the photocopy and must print the following on the photocopy:

“I certify that this is a true copy of the original document”,
the name of the original document,
the date of the certification,
his or her name,
his or her official position or title, and
his or her signature.

Who can certify copies?

Persons authorized to certify copies include the following:

In Canada:

a commissioner of oaths
a notary public
a justice of the peace

Outside Canada:

a judge
a magistrate
a notary public
an officer of a court of justice
a commissioner authorized to administer oaths in the country in which the person is living

Family members may not certify copies of your documents."

Ahhhh! The silence can be so loud! :-[
Going on almost 4 months since they started processing my husbands application for stage 2.
No other documents requested since they asked for the police clearences 2 months ago. Hmmmm......
Does anyone one know of a reasonable time line out of the Embassy in Mexico for document requests??
What documents requested usually mean a good sign?? lol

Question about Authorization to Return to Canada (ARC):

What should we expect on this? I believe I heard you need to send ~$400 CAD + a letter explaining why you should be able to return. If so, what payment options are available and what exactly do they ask you to write about? We would like to get our letter ready proactively so we can send it shortly after they send the request...

Also, we are eagerly awaiting Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) and the PGR police certificate request letter. When my hubby finally gets the police certificate, can he drop it off directly at the Embassy? How good are they about pick-ups/drop-offs? Are there specific hours?

Many thanks!
