it is good news, but I have been on a rollercoaster for a long time. I wont hold my breath until he is here with me. (cautious optomism)

(we won our appeal in Toronto last August 2012, so there is not need to prove our relationship is genuine) It is just waiting for final processing It was supposed to be 'fast tracked" after successful appeal. I am reading older threads stating it still can be another 6 months...or maybe longer. I get stronger every day (today is not a good one-LOL)

Thanks for the info
Why did they refuse your application ?  :(

Hey all -

We are planning to land in Canada mid-May but then have to go back to my husband's country in July. Does anyone know how long it typically takes to get the PR card? Are we pretty much free to come and go as we please once he lands? How will this affect his OHIP application (I understand it kicks in 3 months after landing... or is it after 3 months of physically being in Canada?)

Thanks all :)
Not sure about this.

I may be going crazy and can't find anything on Google about this, but seem to remember reading something that says permanent residents have to stay in Canada for (X) days before they can leave and re-enter. Does this ring a bell to anyone or am I imagining things?

You definitely matured over time. I saw you transform from a basketcase to a calm, collected person. =) This is a stressful journey and it really makes people mature in some ways.

lol! i wouldnt say mature.

this immigration has nothing to do with maturity.

ive just decided no sense in worrying about it when theres absolutly nothing i can do except wait.

I am exactly the same as i was before we started, I just dont worry about immigration 24/7 anymore cuz its not worth it. its like worrying if the sun will come up tomorrow or not. u have no control over it, u just have to do what u can and wait the rest of the time.

but that doesnt mean i dont spend nights crying with my husband on the phone about it, its still highly stressful. but i more or less just keep the emotional part of it inside now and between myself and my husband.
:)

And when you land in canada,
if you want to leave before you get your PR card, you need to go to the immigration office in the airport and get a travel document to use while u leave and enter canada, untill you get your PR card. :)

What do they look for in the backround check? Is it schooling and such things? I'm just curious as to what all these things entail Trying to understand the whole process better.
Our file has been with cic for a long time in part because of my husband. he had a really hard time getting all the paper work for his military card which he needed to get the pgr clearance. This is why I would want to believe that since they've had our file all checks should be completed by now? Would it be safe to assume this? Or is there a high probability that this is the case. In the request they sent us to complete the pgr they made sound as though they were waiting on this to assess our case.
This is what was sent to us:

I am about to complete the assessment of your application for permanent resident visa under the family class and I am unable to determine that you meet the requirements for immigration to Canada.

Subsection 16 (1) states that a person who makes an application must answer truthfully all questions put to them for the purpose of the examination and must produce a visa and all relevant evidence and documents that the officer resonably requires.

You were asked on december 9th 2011, to produce the following evidence and documents within 60 days in order to assess your admissibilty.
*provide our office with the following original police certificates for you:
<Mexico federal police certificate (pgr)
To this date we have not received the required document. A new letter to request police certificates is being sent to you. be informed that you are being granted only 30 days form the date of this letter to coply with our request. Should you fail to present the documentation requested, you application will be assessed based on evidence currently on file and this may result in the refusal of your case.

So what do we think?

good question. I guess they know more than us. Unfortunately, this happens a lot. Due to fraud over many years- many applicants go through a rough ride. My case was solid and I felt confident I would win Appeal. We won on appeal and the judge reversed the decision. Waiting for final processing in Mex. 8)

let me add my two bits here. I know of a person that married someone...she was with him for 3 + years...withing 15 days after she received her landed status she disappeared, took several thousands of dollars of his...and nobody saw it coming...this is partly why they are more diligent!

that's really unfortunate! poor guy!
was she from mexico ?

I haven't heard of very many Mexican fraud cases. I have had a couple friends marry Canadian girls and the girls end up screwing them over or cheating or divorcing etc and cancelling their application on them.
its quite sad, some of them are close friends of ours and I just feel so bad for them.

its crazy how things like that happen.
