Ok well the FBI site has all the forms and instructions. The things to do are:

Send 2-3 sets of fingerprints. Sometimes they reject the quality and you lose a lot of time.

Send a prepaid waybill for the return otherwise it's USPS first class.

Write a letter asking for expedition. They stopped expediting but you never know. Put an immigration deadline and write it on the outside of the envelope.

Make sure the fee will go through. A US money order or certified bank check. Sometimes credit cards reject and that would waste a lot of time.

Hopefully it's just an Oopsie. It really makes no sense.

Thanks Canadiangirl78

I'm unsure how to do all of that from Mexico City. Do you know?

I'm honestly getting tired of all the oopsies, after almost 3 years dealing with this you lose your patience quite easily.

Oh that would be great if they could help you out somehow!!

I feel like this is getting ridiculous they already have the state police checks, the pgr, AND the SSP and if they all say you have no criminal record, then why on earth would you have a criminal record from visiting the USA when you were 11??

Why do they need so many police checks??? ???

Like I said Nessa, I think they're screwing with me. My dad said that he thinks the same woman that denied me got my case and that they want to make me waste as much time as possible. I'd like to think that people that horrible don't exist in this world.

What makes me think that they're just screwing with me is that they didn't ask for the document at the same time as all the other ones.

Do you girls think it will help if I go to the embassy tomorrow and complain/ask what's up?

Well you can print the forms. Not sure about payment from Mexico. You can do the fingerprints yourself. But better a professional. There is FedEx there right?

This is all new to me. Ughhh I could fry an egg with my forehead right now. That's how angry I am.

Has anyone else done this document from Mexico City/Mexico?

Well it couldn´t hurt anything to try and go down to the embassy and ask about it...I say if you are close by and can, then why not?

The application takes awhile to get together. Months usually. So you'll have time to find a job first. Did you already land awhile ago and then return? I don't know the residency rules but I hope you don't lose your PR.

Yes I landed 2 yrs ago and have been absent for a while. But I'm Ok with residency rules since I still have plenty of time to meet my 730 days of residence in Canada for my 5 yr PR period.
However, I am still confused about the job requirement you mentioned. If there is no proof of income requirement, why is there a proof of job requirement? I have plenty of savings to start off life in Canada, why cant I file for sponsorship before I get a job?
I'm trying to figure out the aprox time it will take to get her in on PR.

Thanx

You dont need a job. Students and the unemployed have gotten approved. But you do want to show responsibility. That you both won't rely on welfare.

Also, provide proof of the savings you intend to rely on.

Monarca - when you landed were you the only one on that (FSW?) application? If your ex was on the same application and s/he landed too, you'll probably want to explain a bit about your divorce and be extra-diligent in your proof of relationship to help address the questions that will likely arise upfront in a bullet-proof case.

Hi edgarsitow ... stinks that you now may have an extra step.

You can ask the folks at the PGR to take your fingerprints or you can try to do it yourself. If you call the FBI, they will mail you fingerprint cards ... or you can print some out from their website on regular card stock (regular paper smudges more easily). If you want to do it yourself, the FBI has video on how to roll them that may help (it's not that easy to get them right and not smudge them). If you send the FBI a few copies of the cards, it will reduce the chances of the prints getting rejected.

They may be asking for it because someone with your name and DOB popped up in the US during the background checks and they want to use your prints to confirm it isn't you

Hi Monarca, It confuses me as well. My application still asked for a Notice of Assesment which would have shown my last year's income, and I am a Canadian living in Canada. Anyway, what I can suggest is, depending on where you are moving in Canada, and what kind of job you are looking for, it shouldn't be too difficult to find A job. If you're looking for something specific it would probably take longer. But keep in mind the job market here is significatntly better than in Mexico. So hopefully it wouldn;t take too long to find employment.

Oh, Edgar. I'm so sorry. My husband and I went through this nightmare awhile back. Here's our story: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/profiles/mrandmrsromero-u74049.html;sa,showPosts;start,210

Since our FBI incident, people have been successfully getting prints done at PGR. You just need to get the FBI cards and definitely follow OhC's advice and get a couple of them done just to make sure that what you do send is acceptable.

I am now wondering if we should be proactive and get updated FBI for our file just to be safe, even though my husband hasn't left Mexico since the original submission.

My husband has pretty much never been asked for more than one document at a time. I feel your pain, I really do. As for complaining in person at the embassy, in our experience it takes you nowhere in a hurry.

I think these days you can download the form and take that to PGR rather than requesting cards (check out the FAQ section on the FBI site). http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/background-checks/faqs

Just print it out on cardstock as OhC suggested - my husband and I can attest to the smudging factor when doing your own on regular paper. We did our own prints and were successful on cardstock :)

Thanks OhCanadiana. Yes, my ex was originally included in my FSW application (since it took the application like 4 years to get approved) but she did not land with me. She never landed, and after my landing I sent an email to the embassy in MXC that I had divorced from her.

So, comming back to my point about the job requirement, the opinions here say that students and unemployed have been able to sponsor spouses. My interest is to know how I can file ASAP (to avoid adding to the long wait in the processing). I cant show a proof of tax filing at the CRA, but I have sufficient savings.
Question remaining: Do I absolutely need to wait till I get a job in Canada to be able to file the sponsorship?

I don´t think you need a job first. Just show how you plan to support yourself and your wife until you can find one. Maybe write about what kind of jobs you will apply for and then submit proof of your savings.

If you want a definite answer, I would call and get an answer directly. If you are sponoring someone while you are in Canada, you can call the call centre at "Call Centre telephone number: 1-888-242‑2100" They were almost always helpful when I had a question about Step 1. Call early in the morning, and you shouldn't have trouble getting through. The only thing is, I don't think you can call the number outside of Canada. Do you have someone in Canada that can all for you, since it's a general inquiry?

Thanks guys.

I just came back from the embassy, and apparently I need it because I'm from Tijuana, so if you've lived in the USA or in the "Area Fronteriza" (Border Area) you need to get the FBI. They must think there's no damn fence.

They told me that I get the fingerprints done at the PGJ (Procuraduria General de Justicia).

Does anyone know if I can pay at a bank?
