Hi Vivek,

We went for our medicals on Monday. We booked well in advance. We drank so much water that we had to stop at a fuel station to use their loos :)

That's the funny part - then the stressful / not so stressful part.

We arrived at the doctors office - it was very busy since he is also a normal GP.

We filed in alot of forms asking us about ilness/medication etc. Then we gave a urine sample.

Then the doctor called us in. He did simple checks first of going through our paperwork, stamping all our photos, checking our passports etc.
Then he asked me to stand and read some alphabets for the eye exam ( along with my glasses kept on).

Then he asked me to change into a hospital gown type of garment, and then checked my breathing through lungs, my ankles to see if they are swollen and also checked my BP.

Now the stress starts - my BP has been acting up lately and i am currently on BP medication. But even then - it was still 150/90 during my medical :'(

Anyways - that's all he checked. Then my hubby's turn and exact same procedure.
Also made us stand against a height scale and weighing scale and calculated our BMI and put on our forms.

Then we discussed for a couple of minutes - he said they will probably require a cardiologist report for both me and hubby - him because he has sugar and BP. Me - because my BMI was 44 :-[ and my blood pressure was high.

Luckily because of the whole protein in urine issue that we picked up last month, my husband had already been checked by the nephrologist (kidney) and cardiologist (just to be safe). We simply provided those reports to be inserted into our file.

Myself - we are waiting to see if they call us for further reports or are they happy as they are because i have no sugar problems or cholestrol problems etc.

Then after that check up - we went upstairs to give our blood for HIV, Syphillis and serum creatinine (because of our high blood pressure - standard procedure to ask for this additional blood test if person has high BP).

after that we went for X-rays. That was the last stop so we had to leave our forms there and the X-ray technician sent our x-rays and forms directly to the medical practitioner.

So - now its wait and watch! Please pray for us that it is smooth sailing and that we donot get any furtherance for me or him - we are waiting anxiously and hope to get passport request straight away instead of anything else!!!!

My recommendation to you - if you are as badly over weight as me - i recommend getting a cardiologist report done and if there is any trace of protein in your urine, get a kidney scan, serum creatinine test and nephrologist report handy. That way - you might avoid any furtherance!

I phoned them this morning to confirm if they are couriering it. They said it is on the way and I can call on Monday to recieve courier tracking number to see when the parcel is delivered to the medical officer in Kenya.

hi sd

my 3 years daghter has tracas of protien in urine. please advice me for the medicals
Hi There, are you sure she was not dehydrated during these tests? Many times- that's the cause of trace protein!
She is too young so I am not sure if she will follow the normal path of someone with trace protein. I would recommend that you speak to your GP asap and find out what you can do. Best advice I can give so far is - make sure she drinks lots and lots of water and buy the dipstick checker from a pharmacy and keep checking her urine every 2 days or so.

Hope this helps - good luck!

Hi Vivek,

Nothing yet :(

It will be 4 weeks since our medicals reached Kenya next week Monday - then we will know. We are hoping that we dont get any furtherance and get PPR straight away!!

I went to a cardiologist just to be safe incase they call for furtherance so I can save some time, all clear on that side which was a relief, will have that report ready incase I am called for furtherance.

How are things on your side?

Regards,
SD

Hi Nelly - we got in touch with a very helpful person with a similar problem on another forum. He advised us to get the Nephrologist report and even go for a nuclear scan if necessary to rule out anything which might be a problem/question mark.

I was told that protein in urine is very common - especially amonst youngsters / people who exercise and work out alot / people who are dehydrated / people who have supplementary protein shakes etc.

But if you have a neph report stating there is no problem, they won't even call for a furtherance. The key to the medicals is go fully prepared to the DMP the first time round with all the specialist reports etc inserted in the original package that the DMP sends to the canadian medical officer. There is less chance of a furtherance since you would have answered all their questions!

The only thing we did not think of (silly us) was a cardiologist report for me ( since I have high blood pressure and a bmi of 44 at the time of medicals). So we did that now while we await the outcome and are ready with it should they call for furtherance on me...

Hope this helps...feel free to PM me or ask me anything else.

Hope it all goes well for you

Hi Deep,

It might, best thing and cheapest thing to do is to buy the dipstick tests from your local pharmacy. it tests for proteinuria, sugar, blood in the urine. Its quick and has colour coded indicators.

Hope that helps.
