Hello!

I've noticed that a lot of you have a visa timeline under your username, with 'Med's requested' written. I thought that we had to submit the medical exams WITH the application?

Does anyone want to shed some light on this for me? :)

It depends on where you live. In your case the applicant lives in Syria; so look up the country specific requirements for Syria which are in IMM 3911. Appendix A contains the document checklist and para 7 of that checklist requires the applicant to enclose the medical certificate which the chosen medical examiner will hand over after the medical exam. It follows that the applicant must undergo an upfront medical exam ie prior to sending off the application.

I'd have to agree with wowsers. For us in the Philippines, we are required to undergo the medical exams prior to submitting the application. We need to include the "confirmation" or the "receipt" from the medical facility together with the application we'll be sending to Missassauga. :D

If I am not mistaken, I believe everyone must have a medical test done before submitting the PR application if this is done outland.

Which does not make sense for VO's with a processing time longer than 12 months since the medical exam is only valid for one year.

I am probably wrong on that as inland does have the benefit of applying for medical test up front, minimizing the PR process. The outland applicants cannot get their medical test done until requested by local VO. If they did their medical up front they run the risk of having to do another medical test before landing.

Yes. Then it is our responsibility to follow up/remind them that our meds are about to expire.. Sometimes they do heed our warning but sometimes they dont.

I do believe it is mostly by country related in terms of requiring your medical to be done at time of application. Some countries require you to have medical done at time of PR application. Other countries may not allow you to have medical done until requested by VO. Other countries allow you to have medical done up front but run the risk of having to do the medical all over again if medical expires before you land.

I've spoken to Canada office about this on the phone. They told me that medical is mandatory to be included with the application. Although their guide does say that it is "better to include it", but does not state that it is mandatory. So there is definitely a discrepancy of information.

I also asked the lady on the phone about expiration of the medical. She said that "in some cases" they may extend the validity of the medical. Knowing Canadian bureaucracy well, they will usually extend it in most cases. They just don't want to say it on the phone so you don't hold them accountable if they don't.

Thanks so much guys!

I'd rather have it done and run the risk of needing another test done later than risking a delay should we not include it now.

Anyways I thought I heard that they were extending the validity of the exams from 12 to 15 months?

I think the extension of the validity of the exam is usually up to each CIC officer's determination. However I think the extensions usually applies to those who applied inland and had up front medical exam done, since inland sponsorship usually is a lot longer than 12 months period. Since outland applications tend to be much quicker than inland process, extensions are probably not offered and end up asking for another examination if the applicant chose to have an up front medical exam.
