medical residency/training and canadian experience class

Hello everyone,
I've spent hours trying to figure out the answer to my question with no luck and I am really hoping that I could get some guidance from you.

I am an international doctor who is currently doing her medical residency/training in Canada. I am in my 5th year and I was wondering if that is counted as Canadian experience. I do have a work permit and I spend my time in the hospitals and I am considered as a post graduate student in a university as well so it is a bit tricky. I am hoping to be able to include that in my application as Canadian experience to boost my ranking. My total ranking score is still below '' the lowest score that has been invited for a PR application in the past 2 years or so ''.

The majority of the time, you MUST be a Canadian Citizen or PR to even apply for a Canadian medical residency training spot. Knowing this, then you must be Saudi or another foreign national that has had their govt pay for a training spot? The intent of those spots is for you to RETURN to your country of origin after training.

It is very rare for them to be allowed to stay, as it is against the spirit of the agreement. It would be even rarer for the medical residency training to count, since it is still training...even though you are paid.

I would talk to your residency program director or assistants. I think they'll give you the same answer.

I would not expect getting PR this way. Likely situation is you will have to return to your country, and then apply for PR from there. At least if that pathway works, when you arrive back in Canada you should have a valid license to practice since you have Canadian training unlike all the foreign doctors who come here and get stuck driving taxis without valid licenses.
