Dear friends, thank you for all the support and prayers!

Today, I received the request for medical exam for me and my 5 y.o. son. The package included a letter and forms dated July 24 and a request to pay the RPRF.

I would like to share some info regarding processing times. I'm not sure if this is applicable for all visa offices. My visa office is in Manila:

1) Applications received for permanent residence for SW1 category require on average 12 months to
process. The 12 months commences from the time when the local visa office starts to 'process'
your full application. The exact date can be seen when you click on 'in process' (we started processing
your application on....).

2) The local visa office will contact you within 45 days upon receipt of your application. If you do not hear
from them within 45 days, you are requested to contact them directly.

3) One should undergo medical exam 60 days upon receipt of the letter.

4) Within the next 3 to 6 months after medicals, their next correspondence will be -
a) a request to provide further documentation or information, should these be required before a final
decision on your application can be made OR
b) a request for original valid passports for permanent resident visa to Canada issuance.

Right now I need advice on how to do well in the medical exam. Your inputs will be highly appreciated.

Best of luck to all!

Congrats Mom2karl!!! I am sure u are very excited...

My suggestion regarding medicals is to drink a lot of water and just be relaxed..

I wudnt be able to comment more on medicals cause I dont have the experience :)

Gud luck for ur medicals!!!

Congratulations!
There's not much you can do to prepare for the medicals. They will probably require blood tests for HIV or other blood diseases and chest X-rays to make sure you don't have TB or smoking-related issues. I remember when we did medicals before we came to Australia, that they also did a basic eye test and checked things like weight and physical mobility. If you are a person who suffers from obesity or is a heavy smoker/drinker then they will rightly be concerned about your long-term effect on their health care system. Although it's nerve-wracking, you must be honest because if they approve your visa and then down the line you are hospitalised for something you did not disclose, you'll be in s**t!

thank you all!

others say drink lots of water, others say drink milk. i'm a coffee drinker so i guess i will have to pass on coffee for that day otherwise my bp will shoot up.

What is RPRF? Is it medical fee if yes, what ones has to pay for individual?
Thanks

What's is SW!, SW2 catogary? how much catogories are there?
kindly suggest

hi mom2karl,
congratulations on the progress of your application! Keep us posted :)

RPRF - Right of Permanent Residence Fee which you need to pay for each accompanying family member.
It is not the medicals fee.

RPRF : The Right of Permanent Residence Fee.

SW2 = FSW 2 Federal skilled workers category number 2

There are only three categories under the federal skilled workers stream.

ash_1967,

RPRF is the Right of Permanent Residence Fee which is 490 canadian dollars. The principal applicant and spouse or common-law partner (if applicable) should pay this before a permanent resident visa can be issued. Dependent children are exempt.

There are three categories under the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) Class:

Category 1: For persons in an occupation which corresponds to the list of occupations identified in the Ministerial Instructions and have evidence of one year of continuous full-time (or full-time equivalent) experience in that occupation;

Category 2: For persons who have arranged employment offer with a Canadian employer; or

Category 3: For students or workers who are legally residing in Canada, and have done so for at least 12 months immediately before submitting their application.

trinatocanada, thanks! i will...

By the way, mom2karl congratulations and good luck for the rest of the process

Hi CPA,
Nope, no news yet since I sent them all the updated documents a few weeks ago. But I expect a waiting period of at least 3 months based on others who have come before us.
