Months ago I was pursuing the work visa path while still in the States and the CIC website mentioned:

"Medical examination requirements for temporary residents: If you do need a medical examination, your visa office will provide you with instructions and a form with your assigned file number before you see a panel physician.

Now that I'm married, here in Canada and going the Family Class route for PR, I don't see that anywhere in my "class".

Is the requirement different for those seeking a work permit versus those of us applying for PR under family class?

Family class applicants such as spouses and dependent children do not wait for the file number and instructions from the visa office to do their medicals. They are required to submit proof of their medical examinations with their initial applications. To do a medical, you need the Appendix C, which is one of the forms on the spousal/common-la partner application kit (attached to the Regional Guide for Outland applications).

Yes, the requirements for foreign skilled workers are different than family class sponsorship. CharlieD10 summarized the family class applicant process for you well.
