Hi all,

I applied outland (US) in September 2013. Since then, my wife has been approved as my sponsor and my medical results have been received.

Is there a way I can access Canadian medical coverage while I'm waiting on my PR approval?

That's not necessarily true. Health care is provincial jurisdiction in Canada, so it depends on which province you live in.

Depends on your province in Ontario I got hip coverage after AIP you have to wait 3 months though find out about your province.

From your previous posts I assume you're in Ontario. Usually for OHIP you have to wait until you land, and then wait an additional 3 months. However there is a way to start the 3-month clock for waiting period for healthcare a bit earlier than your PR landing. See here for more info: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/important-ohip-eligibility-info-for-all-pr-applicants-residing-in-ontario-t56695.0.html;msg2518001#msg2518001

Be prepared for lots of bureaucratic steps. In the meantime you should definitely have some kind of private travel emergency medical insurance.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I'm in Ontario; I will head into Service Ontario and start the application process this week.

bartjones, do you know if it's possible to sign the OERC consent form at the Service Ontario office?

No. You will need to get the document denying you coverage from the Service Ontario center. You then take that and mail it to the OHIP Eligibility Review Committee requesting a review of that decision. They will send you the consent form to sign and return to them.

Well, my wife's application was outland and she is covered without getting PR approval yet. Notwithstanding the commonly held view to the contrary, Reg 552 applies to both inland and outland applicants.

I was speaking to the man who said he got a hip replacement after AIP. For outland, it seems to depend on province and circumstances.

In Alberta you can get coverage as a tourist. Your husband/wife can add you as his/her dependant under his/her health card number.
