It's good that she declared the money.

Self-employed is when you work for yourself, that is, you are your own boss. But she was babysitting and getting paid by a family(or the children's parents), so the parents are her employer.

yes, she declared that money (from babysitting) in her tax . so is it Ok?

one more thing: is it better to write self employed i/o baby sitting??

Actually, she probably was paid as a contractor -- i.e. self-employed.

Unless the family issued her a T4, she was expected to declare those as self-employment income.

As for what to put on the application, I'd suggest "Self-employed: babysitter" would be the best.

Hey bsz. From the spreadsheet (for application in 2014), I noted that you have received ecas IP update 13 days after you sent your application to Sydney! Good for you.. Is this your second time that you have been applying or your father works for cic (JK)?

Just out of curiosity, what kind of courier did you send your package with that delivered it in 1 day from Vancouver to Sydney?
I guess it's a mistake from Bsz, I think the 05-28-2014 is the date when the mail was delivered @Sydney. Of course maybe I'm wrong, but I'm very surprised if Bsz can obtain Ecas update so quick when the most recent (except him) saw the Ecas - In process on May, 23 and his application was delivered on March, 3.

Nothing. There's no request for documents to support work history.

It's true it is not on the document checklist. But if you read question 6F(work and education), it asks to provide "employment records". It's very important to be sure when we respond to questions because the wrong answer could be disastrous.

Hardly disastrous. You might get a document request.

From every time they mention education records, it's clear they accidentally left that in on the one line... It isn't mentioned in the Gather Your Documents instruction, nor on the checklist.

Giving them more paperwork to shuffle through could also be "disastrous" as you put it...

"it's clear they accidentally left that in on the one line" - and you know this how? Do you work for CIC?

I think you just like arguing for the sake of it (and providing incorrect information). Question 6F makes it very clear but it's up to each applicant to decide what kind of "employment records" they will provide. If you are not providing an employment letter, tax documents or payslip(s) what other proof do you have for work?

What if they return the application as incomplete then the applicant falls under the new rules? That's what can be disastrous, making an applicant wait a few more years to qualify when perhaps they could have a job offer abroad.

Because I'm used to business processes.

I think you just like arguing for the sake of it (and providing incorrect information). Aside from the fact that they ask for your work history, where in the statute does it require that you have worked? Answer: it doesn't. You could have been employed, going to school or none of the above, and it doesn't affect your eligibility.

You're just as guilty of supplying potentially incorrect information. Don't give them more information than they ask for. They tell you what documents they want in the "Gather Your Documents" section. They also tell you what documents to include in the checklist. Question 6F amounts to them having put the comma in the wrong spot, basically.

Submit or don't submit -- up to you. Personally, I think including more information than is asked of you is asking for delays. But that's me.

What if they return the application as incomplete then the applicant falls under the new rules? That's what can be disastrous, making an applicant wait a few more years to qualify when perhaps they could have a job offer abroad.
This comes back to the whole "intent to reside" -- if you're seeking a job offer abroad and intend to leave Canada, why the heck are you applying for citizenship?
