Application delivered on May 30, 2016 (as per FedEx confirmation) No AOR1. Waiting, and trying to be patient, but SUPER EXCITED at the news that those who had applications in prior to June 13th will be fast tracked, provided the app is in order. Hoping to hear something by this week
I hope it happens but.....It nowhere mentions the criteria of applications prior to June 13th 2016. To me it sounds this was specifically meant for the applications already in backlogs (where processing time is close to or greater than prescribed processing period). As the processing time on cic website (atleast in my case "for India") remains same and no updates made on it.

I just got an email today and it said that I've been approved as a sponsor! It also said my application has been sent to Ottawa because of the country my sponsored relative resides in. I applied from Korea so I thought it'd be sent for processing in Manila and take 13 months. I guess the government is cleaning up the backlog. Good luck!

Timeline:

App rec'd: May 5
AOR 1: May 21
SA: June 13
WOW! congrats! Is your spouse/common low partner currently residing in Canada and have legal status?

I agree with you May2016 that the government statement in no way says applications received prior to June 13 will be fast tracked.
As you indicate, that simply is not the case.

The government has made a statement indicating how it is addressing the issues of the backlog and the long wait times,
and assuring everyone that it's policy is to reunite families.

The government has budgeted an extra 23 million this year which is being utilized to put extra capacity in the system
and applications which are very straight forward and can be processed more quickly will be completed as efficiently as possible.

None of this means that anybody is getting pushed through without complete checks. VO's which traditionally have long waits
and where there are large backlogs will likely see incremental improvements, imo (in my opinion).
I would expect they will attempt to bring the case load current and see that as an achievement rather than try to
push applications through when there are complicated situations and time consuming background investigations to be completed.

So in this case your sponsored relative is your spouse, right? Also is ur spouse in Canada right now? if yes, on what status? Also does Korea need Visa to travel to Canada? Some people in other thread said that mostly applications from Visa free countries are transferred to Ottawa VO even though they applied Outland.
My application date is 11 May and got AOR1 on 31st May. Me and my wife are from India, and Indian citizens need Visa to travel to Canada. But she is here on closed work permit, so I'm not sure if our application goes to India or processed from here in Ottawa!!!!
Yes, in this case the sponsored relative refers to my spouse whom I'm sponsoring. She is in Korea with me. We both live in Korea right now, which is a visa-exempt country. We plan to move to Canada later this year. I think it's correct to assume that visa-exempt countries are starting to be transferred to Ottawa.

In the letter I received, after saying that the application was transferred to CPC-Ottawa it says "This visa office was selected based on your relative's country of nationality and the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act."

Thanks! My spouse is currently residing in Korea with me. I only had the choice of doing Outland because we both live together outside of Canada but plan to move back at the end of the year.

I don't know if I'm the first SA in this group, but maybe just the first one to post it. I saw your username above mine in the 2016 Spreadsheet. Our application dates are so close together. Is your spouse from a visa-exempt country too? If that's the case, and your application is straightforward you should be getting your SA letter soon.

I KNOW that I saw somewhere on an official CIC page, and if memory serves, it was the actual announcement from CIC, that the cutoff to deal with the backlog was June 13th, and that applications received after June 13th wouldn't benefit from the fast tracking of the backlog, but the end result would be that applications after June 13th would still be attended to more quickly, once the backlog was gone. I'm POSITIVE I saw this statement, but now it seems to be gone. Edited perhaps?? I even sent my wife the link, because the pleasant surprise almost knocked me off of the couch. The announcement does indicate now that it has been modified.

I feel sure the government won't select an arbitrary date and give faster service to everyone who filed before that date.
They have several goals: catch up the overdue backlog, make overall processing times faster across the board WHERE POSSIBLE,
increase the overall number of immigrants accepted each year, and increase the availability of information to applicants online while
their applications are being processed.
All those goals are a work in progress but I can see that they're trying, making efforts, having an effect, and frankly I would say
I'm satisfied with the governments work on this issue to date.
