...which really sucks because you dont know what's your real progress unless you're close to the finish line!

There is another possibility that sometimes they move certain applications to another queue where they go through detail level of scrutiny. They can do it based on many critical points or flags they have listed. An application which looks straightforward to us can have certain flags which require detail processing.

Well, all these things are speculations and nobody can be sure how VO's are processing the applications as there is no transparency in the system.

Unfortunately, our hopes of seeing "detailed" status of our application online has been moved to July 23 instead of May 26.

Application was received by the office on 06 May, 2016.

They would have just missed to communicate it you, one other April applicant also did not receive AOR1, he did enquiry and found that he will get SA in one or two weeks,

May be you can enquire too, seniors may help!
