Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Dear friends,

I just want to ask you abt the maximum length of time for temporary foreign workers.

So, my work permit will be expired soon because of the stupid ainp taking forever and fortunately my employer agreed to give the new Lmia. But the thing is that I remember seeing news articles(still can see on the google) the maximum length of time for tfw will be reduced to 2 years from 4 years and I already worked for 2 years. The cic website still says that it's 4 years but I'm concerned it would change out of the blue.

Any idea abt this matter?

Thanks!

1. It is 4 years except for NOC O and A. See:http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/backgrounders/2011/2011-03-24.asp

Additionally, the criteria for max duration is also going to be tied with the fact whether your wage is above the average for that profession in your province. If it is, and its a skilled job, you would still get up to 4. NOC 0 or A (with wage above median) are already exempted. If your case is none of them, then yes you are limited by 2 years.

I have a three year PGWP that is expiring soon and like the original poster, I am also waiting for my AINP or EE ITA and I was wondering if I can take advantage of the 4 year maximum to extend my work permit.

Thanks for your help!

1. No, you would need either the PNP nomination to extend your work permit or an approved LMIA.
2. Note that work on PGWPs are not subject to 4 year maximum.
