Hello Everyone,
I’m currently in a dire need of advice, and my situation is as follows:
I will be flying to Russia on the 18th of October to finally tie the knot with my fiancé of 4 years, after being separated for 2 years due to COVID.
In order to have the marriage registered there, I need a Statement of Non-Impediment of Marriage Abroad, and thus I made a request to Global Affairs Canada to have the Declaration sent to me.
Today, I received an email from Canadian Government that I do not need such a document to have marriage registered in Russia, and thus they will not provide it.
This contradicts from what the local authority in Russia said, as they specifically mentioned that this document is required to have the marriage registered.
Now I’m in a complete bind, I’m not even sure what I can do to even prove my marital status...
If anyone can give any advice to this matter, I will be extremely grateful.
Thank you
