I'm from India and my partner is Canadian. We've been together for almost three years in India. We're gonna visit USA on a study program. I'll be on a B-1 visa. Canadian citizens don't need a visa to enter USA. I wanted to know if we get our marriage registration done in USA, can my partner sponsor me on that basis. What is the procedure for doing it and what problems would I face? I'll be glad to receive help?

The only advice I can offer is that people do "destination weddings" all the time. For my husband and I considered going to the Caribbean to get married. Neither of us were born in the Caribbean so it would have been similar to your situation. He was born in Canada and you in India right?

I don't see how it would be a problem. However, I would absolutely do further research on this to be 100% certain. Also, look at the process needed to get married in the state you will be living in. Make sure you don't need any special documents from India proving you are not married in India etc ...

Hey thanks a lot for your concern. I'll surely consider carrying a document which could prove I'm unmarried.
If I do somehow get married in USA, can I apply sponsor my partner in Canada. Will that marriage registration be sufficient?
Can such an application be considered a fraud'!?? I dont wanna risk anything. Thanks. Really appreciate your concern!!

Canada and the United States have a great relationship. They do accept marriage certificates from the United States. My husband is Canadian and I am American. We got married in NYC and I used our NY USA marriage certificate for the application. I don't see how it can be considered fraud if the certificate is authentic.

Thanx a lot :D
I'll be In Manhattan this December probably, do you have any idea where exactly should we go for that purpose?
For instance, what office deals with matters like that? Since you're from America, you must know about it!! Thanks a lot
Is it possible to extend your B1 visa while in America in case I have to appear for my exam??
:)

You have to go to city hall to get a marriage license in NYC and then you have to wait at least 24 hours to get married.

I am not sure about the visa extension i've never had to deal with Visas sorry :(
