Hi, I've seen a few other posts on this general subject but the circumstances weren't quite the same so I'm just gonna ask it again. We are planning to get married but are now thinking we don't really want to wait the 13 months or however long the PR process will take. That is of course entirely dependent on 1) Can we get married while the PR process is ongoing? and 2) If so what effect would that have on the application process? Thanks to any advice/insight anyone can provide.

The particulars:
Boyfriend = Canadian citizen
Girlfriend = Australian but has filed part 1 of PR process. Has lived and worked in Canada for a couple years.

You can get married during the PR process and as you are marrying a Canadian, there will be no effect on your PR application.

Hi, thanks for your quick reply! Just to be sure I understand. Will there be additional paperwork during the process to update things or it won't matter to the PR process at all?

As a courtesy, you should update with immigration that you got married once you get the marriage certificate. Just send them a copy and a copy of the husbands passport and a letter stating that you wanted to update your info that you got married and that as your husband is a citizen, you will not be adding him to your application.

What if both have their PR application on process.

Boyfriend = CEC (just recieved AOR)
Girlfriend = live in caregiver program ( 18 months on process )

What could be the effects on each application if we get married and change our marital status.

Thanks in advance..^__^

Yes - it will affect it because you'll each have to add your spouse to your applications.

Thanks for the reply..

I know that it will add more processing time for both application.
Do you have any idea how many months/year will it add to each application??

It will add a few months - definitely not years.

I got married during my PR process and CPC vegreville sent my application to the local office where it will take 24 months more of waiting. If i were you i will think it twice.

Your situation is completely different. You and your fiancee have applied through regular classes (CEC and LCP) where adding spouses to applications isn't unusual.

Daviddock applied as a conventional refugee. These applications undergo much more scrutiny.

Why does it take too long scylla? Do you know? I have been looking up and no answer yet. I applied for FOSS to have an idea about it.
