Current Situation:
Ongoing PR application and is waiting for medical request. Applied as single.

Dilemma:
I want to marry my fiance.

Questions:

1. Can I marry my fiance while my application is being processed?
a. If yes, do I have to increase my POF? Will it mean more waiting time for my Visa to be released?
b. If no, please tell me why.

2. Can I marry my fiance after the local VO released my visa and before landing?
a. If yes, what are the repercussions of this decision?
b. If no, please specify why.

I am open for any other advice or opinion in order for me to have a better judgment on how to marry my fiance before I go to Canada and complete the landing 'cause it's a waste of money to buy 1 round trip ticket and another 1 way ticket to complete the landing and go back to marry my fiance.

Thanks a lot for the replies.

Actually, you can get married now and then inform the embassy ASAP. You will have to send your marriage certificate, pay the application fee for your wife and then send your wife's birth certificate and other necessary documents.

It may delay your processing time a little but you don't have to start over. Basically, it might just add a few months.

Remember, if you wait and get married later then you have to start over and you can only apply after a certain time to sponsor your wife. You will have to start a new application and at least wait 6 months to have your case finalized. Therefore, think about these points and then make a decision.

Good luck!

Or is it alright to inform the local VO about this plan, out of goodwill, so as not to further complicate things?

Thanks guys for the reply.

As suggested by one of the forum members, wait if you can, get your visa and complete the landing formalities then get married and file for your wife will take from 1 month to 3 months for her visa.

You don't really need to tell them or ask permission to get married. You can just tell them you are getting married and that you will forward the necessary documents and that you would like to add your wife to your application. That's all. Then the visa officer will send you instructions on what to do. It won't complicate things. Don't worry and rest assured.

Rocky272727,

You are one of the most senior members on this forum so you may be more right than I am. But, is it really a harm if he adds his wife now to the current application? So that it can save him more time in the future?

I don't wanna confuse anyone. Anyways, Rocky you probably know more about this so your valuable info is also respected.

Wait for visa... fly as soon as possible after getting. do the landing formalities, find a job there. after 2 /3 months go to home country, get married. come back on your job. file visa papers of your wife after mariage in canada. she can join u in max 6 months in canada. in the meantime save money during separation period.... :D

Okshan819, Thanks for your comments but honestly I can be wrong here also and this is just my opinion as per my information. Well I think if he gets married and then adds his wife to the applicant then it might take more time like 3 - 4 months but like if he goes to Canada and then as suggested by accounts that he try's and look for a job over there and meanwhile files her wife papers then it will be much more adaptable for him.

This is just my opinion.

Thanks

well i guess its either marry now and file the necessary forms and suffer the consequences of longer waiting time or complete the landing, go back home after a few months, and hopes i still have a fiance to marry? ;D ....choices....

thanks guys for the info.

Guys, I have a question here. I am done with my medicals and if everything goes fine, I would be getting my visa in few months. I am planning to land and get the landed immigrant status, but not moving to Canada immediately as I am in a good job in US now. Assume I am getting married after getting the landed immigrant status and while I am still in US. What should I do? Is it possible for me to add my wife as my dependent while I am still in US? or should I wait until I move to Canada and then apply for her?

I hope I made my question clear. Please share your thoughts.
