Hello,

I applied for EE FSW in July 2019. I included my common-law partner as an unaccompanying dependent. Now while I'm waiting for PPR, we are considering getting married. This is not going to change the fact that she is still not accompanying me to Canada. My questions regarding this decision are as follows:

1. If we get married before PPR, and inform IRCC through the web form about our marriage, is it going to trigger more documents being requested (such as marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc.)? Is this going to delay the review process?

2. If I get PPR before getting married, should I send in my passport before or after informing IRCC? If after, should I wait for IRCC's response on this matter to ensure they are not changing the decision of PPR?

I really appreciate your input in this matter!

Thanks!!!

Would really appreciate any input!
If you marry at any time before you actually "land", your COPR may become invalid and you need to contact IRCC via the Web Form to notify them. You must NOT use the existing COPR to land, unless given instructions to do so. That's really all you need to know. Yes, it may introduce a significant delay in the process before you can become a PR.

As your partner is already in the application, albeit in a different status, it will not require any extra medical etc. However IRCC will need the marriage certificate etc in order to change your application details.

This is very helpful, thanks.

Hey any idea if you get married to someone who's already a permanent resident of canada during the process? Does the copr still become void?

Hmm.. Strictly speaking, yes, as the applicant's marital status is changed from "single" (as stated on the COPR) to "married".
However, there is no further processing of the PR spouse required. They do not have to be added to the application as accompanying or non-accompanying.

May I ask one more question - if I would like to change my partner from unaccompanying to accompanying, is that going to result in recalculation of my score? I listed her as unaccompanying common-law partner when I initially submitted my application, and now we are getting married soon. Thanks!!!

Yes, it may do. If the reduction in score is enough to have made you ineligible for an ITA at the time of the draw, it might have a negative effect on your application.
