We're in Alberta, and they told my husband (who also has an international license) he'd have to do the knowledge test, then submit his license, wait 2 weeks THEN do the road test. In BC apparently he can just go straight to the road test for the full license.
Yep, varies a lot from province to province, doesn't it?

International licence is valid in BC only 90 days after landing, regardless of validity of the document itself (which is 2 years for the one I have). I am hoping I will get my CoPR and land soon, then I'll just walk into a ICBC office I have close by and ask. I was just trying to get some information here if someone else managed to get their licence in BC without testing. Not that important at the moment, I just like to thing ahead :) Thanks anyways!
We had a friend ask for us while we were still in Alberta.. They told him since my husband has had his license since 2008 he'll be able to go straight on to the full license road test. There are some countries, though, that do have reciprocal licensing arrangements. Where are you from?

I am from Bosnia. Already checked, no reciprocal agreement. It's funny to me that I will probably have to take the test, although I have my license 8 years now, and the rules are almost the same, and people from UK, that drive ON THE LEFT, can get their license with no test.

Anyways, I will check the settling part of the forum for this :D

I read several postings on this forum mentioning that it takes about 4 weeks to receive the PR card. You have been waiting for 5 months, so you certainly should call them.

just updating that my husband landed yesterday at Pearson Airport.. everything went smoothly... we opted to go to Service Canada at a later date instead doing the SIN and OHIP at the airport as we were exhausted from the 25 hour flights with minimal sleep and the kids were quite tired/hungry ect.

Yea. Nowadays its about 55 days but 5 months wait is somewhat mind blowing. Must call CIC and check for any inconsistencies.

Hey guys,

So busy with the baby and everything, but I just got an email yesterday that they want to do an interview. Kinda weird though cause my husband lives in Costa rica and they want to do the interview in El Salvador. Anyone ever heard of this before. It's going to be a significant financial inconvenience but its not like they're giving us a choice. Do you think someone made a mistake? Has anyone heard of anyone having to travel outside of their home country for an interview?

Yes, I believe there is mistake here. I have a friend whose wife lives in Cambodia and she was interviewed in Cambodia even though the VO responsible for Cambodia is Singapore VO. My advice is to send Case Specific Email to your husband's VO and tell them your husband lives in Costa Rica but the interview requested is in El Salvador, then ask if this is accurate. Also, I strongly advice you to contact your PM soonest possible.

I would contact and check, but it very well could be correct. The Abu Dhabi office covers where we lived and much of the greater Persian Gulf region. Interviews require flights, visas, hotels, etc, etc. I can easily see a situation where El Salvador covers Costa Rica as their is no Canadian embassy presence there, or the embassy there doesn't handle PR issues, as was the case where we were.
