My wife accidentally took my Canadian passport to South Korea and she needs to mail it back. Is it legal to mail passports overseas to a residential address (from South Korea to Canada)?
Thanks. I also checked DHL's Canada import guidlines and it says passports are not prohibited but should still check with Canadian policies. Unfortunately its the weekend so all call centers are closed.
Called the Canadian passport services and confirmed mailed passports are illegal. The person said passports had been confiscated at the borders before. I guess one has to be lucky?

From what I remembered, the courier tracking website indicated the package had been inspected by CBSA but it was delivered to me anyways. I guess check with CBSA will be a better idea than local passport office.

Pretty sure they are wrong. If it was "illegal" there would be some official law on it that you could find. However if you search through all the laws of Canada, you won't find anything since it doesn't exist.
Its illegal to mail fraudulent official documents through the mail, so if mail is inspected and they suspect it to be an illegal copy passport then they will confiscate it.
In your case, there should be no issues. Just use a reputable courier with tracking service.
