In Vancouver, either Yaletown (False Creek) or Coal Harbour offer very nice condos (high rise) directly on the water. There are also a few newer high rise buildings on the south side of False Creek (across from the Edgewater Casino) in the former 2011 Olympic Village. West Vancouver also has some properties, (mainly single family homes) on the water but they are very expensive ($3 million+ and up). Likewise, some very nice places in the Point Grey area are exclusively single family homes and VERY pricey. Kitsilano is a more eclectic, generally younger (average age-wise) demographic but I wouldn't categorize the available placces (houses and low-rise apartments) as particularly "exclusive".

All-in-all, your best bet is probably going to be either Yaletown or Coal Harbour. To give you arough idea about pricing, I myself live in Yaletown in a high-rise directly on the water (Marinaside & Davie St area). I'm in a 26th floor condo with with windows facing east and south and a balcony overlooking the marina. Building has indoor swimming pool, gym, theatre, etc. Grocery store (Urban Fare), several nice restaurants/cafes, newsstand, doctor and dental offices, etc. are located within the building and can be ccessed by resifdents without ever lreaving the building. Nice in the winter/during bad weather! My home has 2 bedrooms + den, 2 bath, 1030 sq. ft. total. I have one underground parking space and a storage locker (6 x 10 feet) in the garage. Granite counters, stainless appliances, fireplace, etc. (the usual amenities found in nicer places). Monthly rent is $2600. I pay an extra $110 a month for an additional parking garage stall so total comes to just over $2700.

Oh, almost forgot, 100% fiber-optic service is available in most of the newer (post-2000 or so) high rise buildings in the area. Internet connection speeds of 100+ megabit up and down!

what if we want to buy a house? it needs to be four bedrooms and a yard at least 3500 sq. feet. we need a two car garage. we have kids so they would need a place to play and run with the 100 pound dog.
