I am a Sri Lankan citizen currently residing in Sri Lanka and I have an extended family member who is a Canadian citizen living in Ontario, Canada. She is my maternal great grandmother's niece (i.e my mother's grandmother's twin sister's daughter).

I wish to find out if I am eligible to be sponsored by her under the "Lonely Canadian" category since she is unmarried and has no immediate family members to sponsor.

Appreciate a favorable response.

Thank you soo much for taking time to reply.
Yes my parents are still alive and sri lankan citizens.
My distant relative is a canadian and 72 years old..she is basically my godmother and wants to sponsor me

She would still need to be working and meet income requirements in order to potentially qualify to sponsor you. Is she still working?

Thank you for the reply,
Btw she is still working and can meet all income requirements.

In that case she can try to sponsor you. I don't know if IRCC will accept the sponsorship - they may say she is too distant a relative. But she can certainly try. You can expect the sponsorship process to take 2-3 years to complete. She will have to continue to meet the income requirements while the application is in progress.
