I am applying to be deemed rehabilitated. Was i informed correctly that i can go to my local CIC office here in Kitchener to apply? That they could make a decision there and then if they are quiet?

Visa extension about to be sent off, with a letter telling them that i have applied to be deemed rehab'd. Visa expires 14th Mar, in April it will be 11 yrs since DUI driving ban ended. 12 years since suspended sentence for forgery ended.
In all probability, if i apply for PR BEFORE its fully decided, they will refuse my app. I know, i know all about about that I shouldn't be in the country to begin with.
I was unaware that a DUI is criminal in Canada - its not in Ireland
Just wondering if i could get the rehab done there (safer than going to, and being told no at border)?

thanks

I have not heard of anyone getting this done at a local office.

You should read this....

The CIC site shows

Self-assessment for deemed rehabilitation

You are eligible to apply for deemed rehabilitation at a port of entry if:

you only had one conviction in total or committed only one crime
at least ten years have passed since you completed all sentences (payment of all fees, jail time completed, restitution paid, etc.)
the crime you committed is not considered a serious crime in Canada AND
the crime did not involve any serious property damage, physical harm to any person, or any type of weapon.
A request for deemed rehabilitation is not guaranteed to be approved.

It also states:
"Deemed rehabilitation also depends on whether you have committed one or more offences. ", so be aware it may not be a given that it will be granted.

I would wait before sending the PR application.

No, I won't now go to local office, it gets posted. Typical call center, every time i call, i get different answers. I called in there today and the chap said to apply for both together, that it will work out quicker, and that my status will be ok. That they are Canadian, not monsters and if i dont get into trouble, they wont send me home, that they dont want to split up a family.
It was their fuck up to let me in he said. (not those terms!!) - it would be on record if they asked me on entering about any convictions, and since they didn't, it would (not) be

it also says on http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/op/op20-eng.pdf, that it might still be classed as minor

If you do a word search under "convictionS", it narrows down the document.

I obvioulsy will stay well clear of the border option!

thanks again.....
