Hi,

I am on a closed LMIA work permit. EI deductions are done in my salary. If I am let go, can I apply for EI benefit?

Thanks.

Not if it's a closed permit restricted to one employer. One of the conditions of receiving EI is that you're ready and available to work for any employer . You aren't , you're restricted to one employer , that one being on your work permit

Hi there vj171081

Please be wary of the information you read on these forums. I don't know where Copingwithlife found his answer indicating that you are ineligible for EI.

You pay into your own Employment Insurance when you work in Canada, and this is meant to come to your rescue when you need it.

Please read these websites to find out if you're eligible for EI, and how to apply.

Base yourself on what you read on gc.ca websites, not on what people tell you here, especially without citing what they claim.

Good luck to you :)

Copingwithlife likely knew the answer because it is basic EI requirement info that many people know. If OP is laid off, they can't work and therefore don't qualify for EI.

I used to work in a EI call centre, so just maybe I know a bit more than the average person . How much time did you put in ?
If you can’t work , you can’t claim (except sickness benefits). It’s kinda basic
