Hello,

I need your help, the thing is I just found out I was pregnant, the dad is in canada, that why I decided earlier to go to Canada, already have a contract for 2 years, I am 5 weeks pregnant, and I havent started the visa proccess yet, but it takes about 2 weeks, the thing is, can I go to Canada like this and once I am there tell the family? I really want to do the best for the baby, that way he or she can be closer to her / his dad.... I know is complicated, I don't plan to stop working or anything once I am there, but I dont know how this will affect everything.

Thanks

Have you done the a medical already? Is one required? pretty sure CIC and your employer would likely find out if you haven't done one yet I don't know much about the whole live in caregiver scenario, but not telling the employer prior to arriving in Canada seems like a breach of contract to me. As you have yet to arrive and assume your responsibilities, I doubt very much that Canadian Labour Laws would apply or have much influence over how the employer deals with it if you fail to disclose your pregnancy in advance. As a pre-existing condition, without disclosure, that might cause some issues for you. I would come clean with the employer now and tell them you are pregnant.

So, first you can't legally be fired for being pregnant...

However without looking into it more, i will assume that you have a work permit already and just apply for the visa and that it will be all good for that.

The one thing is that you are going to face some difficulties there. You have no health coverage right now in Canada. Your employer may have some health coverage that could help you with the costs but it is unlikely to cover enough. Additionally since that would be a pre existing condition for insurance purposes, I don't know how easy it will be for you to get some coverage.

After birth, you will still not have coverage but if you stay in the province for 2 years, your baby will have coverage.

Overall, it is not going to be easy and I am not sure that imposing yourself on the other family by telling them only after moving to Canada will set your relationship for success. You may want to get their help prior to moving and making sure that you are not putting yourself in bigger troubles (the financial debt you could incur going this route could be significant...) by moving to Canada at this point in time.

It depends on a lot of factors.

But you can be fired or terminated for non disclosure or misrepresentation. Pregnant or not. With OP not in Canada and failing to inform the employer, that could be construed as failure to disclose. And really, terminating someone is simply a matter of documenting poor performance. Just because you are pregnant doesn't mean you can't be terminated. You just can't be terminated for being pregnant. Just looking at all the possibilities.
