Hello!
I have a major enquiry related to a possible immigration in Canada.
But firstly I will detail my situation.
I am a Romanian female planning to leave my country and go in Canada to live with my boyfriend. I met him a year ago and we settled that we will live together. I love him very much.
Now, the problem is that I am still a student and thus immigration would appear as a highly costly and time-wasting process.
Is it possible for him to come here and marry me and afterwards apply for a sponsorship? Will it facilitate my situation, to immigrate in Canada in a shorter time?
Or should we wait until I finish my education, work for 6 months and then apply as a skilled worker?
What is the best solution? I really wish to be there as soon as possible.
Thank you. Any answer will be highly appreciated!

if you really want to stay together as soon as possible, i would say spousal sponsorship is best :) you boyfriend can visit your country and get married there but you need to check with your country rules regarding marriage on tourist visa. in some countries, there is a time period that someone is supposed to stay in, before marriage.
skilled worker visa is only an option not guaranteed and can take forever.

Agreed! Skilled worker is not a guarantee or permanent.. PR is, if you get approved. I would suggest look over the application for spousal sponsorship, and start brainstorming about what you can collect and save now for proof of your relationship. Collect as much proof as possible.

TSauretBaxter thank you to you as well. Well, I have already saved all my chat logs and e-mail messages I have received from him, so I believe that's a good start. Thank you!

yes agreed! spousal is the best option

skilled worker can take a very long time!, up to 4 years and is not garanteed.

spousal usually takes under 1 year.
:)

LeisaP thank you for your answer!

The skilled worker program is currently closed to new applicants. It won't be accepting new applicants until next year at the earliest, and it's being revamped a bit while it's closed, so we don't know what it will look like when it reopens.

If you're planning on marrying, definitely go spousal.

The FSW program isn't closed. It's still open and accepting applications - however the rules on who qualifies at this time are limited. You can still qualify to apply if you have a job offer in Canada - or if you have just completed or are in the process of completing your PhD stuties in Canada.

Hm, didn't know about the PHD thing, that's good to know.

I thought that the FSWP was separate from the program you'd be applying through if you had a job offer, though?
