Hello I am trying to find out how much time I can spend within Canada on a tourist visa. For example in Schengen or USA I think it's 6 months per 365 calendar days. I haven't been able to find out what the rule is in Canada.

My hypothetical is the following: If I spend 4 months in Canada (let's say January to April), go home for 2 months (May, June), then come back to Canada in July, do I get another 6 months automatically?
What is the limit, or is it just case by case discretion of the officer?

Thanks

How long you are allowed into Canada on each visit is entirely up to the CBSA officer you encounter when you enter Canada.

No, the 6 months isn't automatic. It's at the discretion of the officer each time you enter Canada (including the first time).

There are no hard and fast rules. However generally speaking, you want to spend more time outside of Canada than inside of Canada within any given 12 month period.
