getting married :) after that planning to apply outland via london. i am from europe, soon to be hubby is canadian citizen(also has british citizen) :p

we have to wait 12 weeks to get the marriage certificate? we are located in toronto.
can we apply it before 12 weeks still?

can we use copy of marriage license(signed)?

do anyone know what happens with the new passport? i have a stamp in my passport now(the date when i came) and i need to get new passport after the wedding, cause im changing my last name.what happens with the stamp? confusing :D

applying outland, is it better to apply visa extension first? or send sponsorship/pr application first? i know chances are 50/50 anyways, but i have a thought that if they dont give extensions, i can always apply inland(owp with pr application)....

i will ask it here also, even i did in pr conversation already...

my bf (canadian citizen)is on training program, takes about 2 years still. after the program, his company can send him to work anywhere in the world in their shops. this can last anything between 2 or 10 years. this means we have to move out of canada in some point(and i dont like this idea at all, i love to live here and i love canada). if im applying pr now/soon and get it, will i loose the status if i live 2-10years somewhere else? and does it look bad if i loose and trying to apply it again when we come back? of course we have pretty good reason to live somewhere else.

Than you so much!! :)

It took me less than three weeks to get my certificate, and I was also married in Toronto. Get on the website and send off the order information and they will give you the certificate as soon as the marriage is filed, which is usually sooner.

Some people have sent the record of solemnization (the paper they give you on the wedding day) and the marriage certificate later, but it's recommended that you just send everything at once. You'll probably find that you get the marriage certificate sooner than what they say. We actually ended up holding everything up because of his SLOW boss who kept forgetting to write the letter, not the marriage paperwork! :)

In terms of the passport, I didn't change my name just so there wouldn't be that confusion. I'll change it later once all of this is sorted out.

There are residency requirements for being a Canadian PR. To keep your status as a permanent resident, you must live in Canada for at least two years within a five-year period (according to the cic website). If you are in Canada for three out of four years, you can apply for citizenship, and then you won't have to worry about time spent outside of Canada. However, you can lose your PR status and have to go through this all over again if you don't meet the residency requirement.

I got my wedding certificate within 2 weeks, was really fast. Don't forget you need to order the long form for immigration, not just the regular one. I thought that the certificate would be the hold up....but nope...FBI is our major delay.

I am doing the same with changing my name. Waiting until everything is done so there is no confusion at all and a chance of something being screwed up.

I know I have posted this site before but you will find it useful to order the marriage certificate and the othings from the province of Ontario :

Good luck!

My lawyer told me that is what was needed for the immigration paperwork. I also remember reading it somewhere, let me see if I can find it.

Edit - we gave one of each to submit however

Link I found referencing the long form:

I know I saw more, but will keep looking. I have also seen people state they only sent the certificate and not the long form as well. So I am sending both just so there is no confusion or delay if they want to request it.

It doesn't matter. You just have to include copies of both of your passports. Your maiden name is included on the forms.

You have to stay in Canada a certain amount of time to maintain your PR status, and to qualify for citizenship. But if you are staying outside Canada with your Canadian spouse, this time also counts.

Thanks! If you find more let us know! Its so confusing since the check list says to send a marriage certificate (which is a short form) and not mentioning the long form (certified copy of registration). I just ordered one and if it comes in time before I send the application we will include one. It says it can take up to 15 business days (!!) but hopefully sooner than that.

The government does not make it easy, that is for sure. Yes, it is pretty straight forward but then you see stories of people who followed it to a T and were then requested to submit information that was not originally stated, however should have been.

Main reason we got a lawyer for this process, well worth the money in my opinion. They are taking care of everything and making sure all the t's are crossed and i's dotted. Although, I am still paranoid something will get missed, lol.
