Letter of sponsorship

Hello experts,
For sponsorship, what exactly do I need from a friend of mine in Canada?
He sent me his past five months bank statements and a simple signed letter of sponsorship, stating that I'm a close friend of him and he is agreed to support me. Is that enough??
