Hi guys,
for those of you who are in North America: is it customary here to put official seal on the letters of reference? did you submit a letter of reference without an official seal?
I received one, from university, without a seal as they claimed that they do not provide a seal for individual employees. On my current job, I have also been told that they do not usually stamp letters with an official seal.
Hence I am wondering if a letter without a seal is fine or it will lead to rejection.
thank you!

Do they ask for an official seal for work experience? My person did it on a university letter head.

No need of office seal. Our HR person did not put a seal and they accepted it.

Thank you for your responses!
Did you explain in your application why you did not have a seal?
My embassy (Moscow) does require an official seal, b/c all documents in Russia are certified with it. However, Buffalo, one closer to the Canadian reality]:), listed the seal as "if applicable"

My impression also was that it is not obligatory in Canada and US to put an official seal on a letter. I am glad to hear that it was accepted in some other cases!

No need to explain in the letter that a seal is not present on the letter. People in North America still trust something written by a reference without a seal if it is on a letterhead!!!!!!!!!

Standard reference letter from your HR or Total Rewards department will work, don't need any official seal.

None of my reference letter has official seal. All my previous and current employer conveyed that letter head is good enough and if they get background check they will confirm to the enquiring agency about issuing the reference letter

Make sure to include the visiting card for the person, who wrote the letter. Buffalo specifies that in their instructions.

Hi i know you are suppose to a visit card so i did not include it , because i hard left the country where i was working and most of the people who signed the work experience paper had also changed job positions and so on.

Hope this will not being me any problem. Please avice me.

Canadaforall.

What is a visiting card? Do you mean a business card?
Business cards are asked to be included but if you can't then just write a letter to say why not.
I think if the contact details of the person are found somewhere, then that would suffice.

You are right Rupesh. I meant to say business card.

Thank you for the answers!
I will include business card.
However, I know one case from Eastern Europe when a reference letter without a business card was accepted. The applicant included an explanation that it is not customary in her country to have business cards. I also will have a letter (not from Canada) without a card and I am going to explain that my former boss did not have any cards available (they were in fact in print).

I wonder How can I go to my ex manager and ask for his business card whom I used to hate like nothing else. He was after me all the times to fire me as I was hired by the HR without his 100% consent, He wanted to hire his own relative in place of me. Can I write this to cic as an excuse of not providing the business card and reference letter ?

Is that specific job the one you are using for your ministerial requirements or is it mostly for points?

This vindictive manager was of my 2nd Job, I am NOT claiming points for that. it was my NOC 2281 and 2282
I am claiming points for my current job from which I can obtain all the necessary things, ref letter, contractr etc.
