Hi everyone,

I tried finding an answer to this but haven't been successful so far, so hopefully, someone more knowledgable than me can help me.

I am currently in Canada with a valid open work permit (that is tied to my husband's study permit). We are planning to visit our home country (Kosovo) for a couple of weeks and come back. My husband got his travel visa, but I've made a mistake and submitted my application on the wrong category.

So, I want to know if I can leave Canada with an expired visa and then while I am in Kosovo I will apply for my new travel visa from there. Would I be able to do this? Would this cause any problems or affect any of my future applications?

Thank you

Yes, you can go to Kosovo and apply for a new TRV. This will not affect your work permit or any future applications.

No issues leaving Canada on an expired visa - you only need a valid visa when trying to enter, not leave.

We are planning on staying there around two months which hopefully should be enough to get the new TRV. I will apply for the new TRV as soon as I get there and since our permits expire in November, I hope that's plenty of time to come back here and apply for our permit extensions inside Canada.
