I don't know if this qualifies as a "Latin American" experience, but I consider myself Latin, so here it goes:

I'm being sponsored by my Canadian fiance. We are filing as common law, and since I'm from Puerto Rico, our visa office is Buffalo, NY. So far, the process has been much faster than I expected. We filed our application in December, got sponsorship approval in Jan, and we received our AOR a few days ago. I still can't log into e-cas with my information, so I'm expecting that to be the next step.

We are getting ready for the possibility of an interview. We'll see what happens.

Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone. I hope you get PPRs soon!

I am sponsering my husband from Mexico. We applied Feb 2010. The embassy in Mexico City kind of, lost, miss placed, didn't follow up, whatever you want to call it for 8 months. CIC and my MP said "no news is good news." I believed them. Now i believe, if you have waited a long time (I don't mean 6 whole weeks...) and it just feels wrong, and you haven't heard anything, ask your MP to do an enquiry, don't wait.

Happy note, I think my husband will be here soon, maybe a month maybe 6 weeks. I am soo happy. 15 months is a long time, but the light at the end of this tunnel is very bright.

Good Luck to all.

they took my husbands passport 13 months ago...dont hold your breath

Contact your MPs office and have them do an inquiry on your application. It's the only way I have been about to get anything from the Embassy in Mexico.

I HAVE WONDERFUL NEWS :D. So I have been dealing with this office for some months now. I am trying to bring my husband from Panama. When i first sent in the sponsorship forms it took 1 month for approval. I thought things would go quick from there but they did not. The office recieved my husbands PR application on October 22 of last year. I had no updates until now. On March28 2011, (5 months 6 days). My husband recieved a letter stating that he had to send his passport with his photos so that they can stamp his visa in it. we are very excited, considering the fact that everyone including my MP's rep, which was not very helpful, told me that the soonest I would hear from guatemala is March of next year. It has already been a year and 3 months since Ive seen my husband. I purchased a one way airplane ticket to panama because I couldnt wait any longer, then this news came in a week later. Good timing huh :p

That's great! Congrats!

That is great news. We are also going through this office. They just asked for my husband's passport as well but they did not say it was to stamp his visa in it. I would be so happy if ours went through like yours did.

He might get his PR soon too. I have a lawyer doing everything for me and he told me that usually when the visa office only asks for you to send the passport and no other additional information it is because they are satisfied and are planning to give the PR pretty soon. Good luck :)

they had my husbands passport for a year, then asked him to re-do his medicals, and asked him to send his passport back after his medicals were done. I think they'll give it to him once they recieve his medicals again, does anyone know how long they take to process them in trinidad?

I hope that wont be our case :(. Although they did let us know that they have recieved his medical exams. As for trinidad. I have family from trinidad that came to Canada. They told me that it took them about 2 years but it could be because 6 kids were involved and they pushed the MP to help out which he eventually did. Then againt his was a very long time ago.
