I have noticed that there is not alot of threads with information regarding the Guatemala office. I also noticed most threads on here are for Asia, India and the US.
I am hoping that this thread will help people in Latin America

Thats great keep me posted on your progress.

I originally sent my sponsorship to Ontario back in October 09 and was approved a month later. We than sent in our application for PR in Jan 2010 to Guatemala and are still waiting. It's been six months already so I hope something happens soon!!!

I'm applying through FSW. I'm waiting for my passports with visa. But I'm also interested in knowing more about how to sponsor my parents. I woud like to know how long after I arrive can I sponsor my parents. And does one have to show proof of funds or something like that to be able to maintain our parents in Canada. For the mean time my mom will apply for a tourist visa. Do you know If they give them for a long or short period of time? I would really appreciate your answers.

I applied through this office and have been in Canada for 4 months already, no job yet but really hoping something this week, big companies here take nearly a month to hire someone and it's been stressful, currently insomniac, lol. I'll be happy to answer any questions regarding this office. Now for gigab, tourist visas are given with a 3 month validity (if it's only one entry, i don't know about multiple entry visas) however, once used, your mother would be allowed to stay for up to 6 months. When they stamp her passport, they will put a date, this will be her allowed time to be in Canada; if they don't, then it's 6 months. Now in order to sponsor them, you will need to show an annual income so you can't sponsor them right away, the amount they will demand is dependant on how big your family is (your parents, siblings). If it's too much, then your husband can act as co-undertaker as well so both your incomes combined can make up for their requirement.

I noticed that it only took you about 8 months to get your Visa and I have a few questions for you. Did you pay all the fees at one time or did you make them in installments? The reason I am asking is I payed my last fee (right of permanent resident fee) a few months ago and wanted to know appox how long after should I expect to hear anything?

Well, for one thing, this is family class program. I didn't notice till after I posted so I apologize. Second thing, it didn't take me 8 months, I listed the times after my application was accepted at Guatemala but in reality it took me almost 2 years. I paid my fees in 2 installments, application fee first then RPRF after I was asked for it.

if my wife will apply for pr, she lives in costa rica, so that would mean her file will be processed in guatemalla right? Just wondering because my wife is in the process of getting her medicals done, and it asks which visa office, what would she  put there?

hey Gary,

unfortunatley if your wife is from Costa Rica then she will have to have her medicals sent to the Guatemala Visa Office. This Office is sooooo slow! I cross my fingers that your PR process moves fast!!!

The Embassy in Guatemala is soooo slow and they only have 2 visa officers which I was told by my member of parliament's office that one is usually in the office and the other travels doing interviews throughout Central America.  (which I really hope is not true considering the amount of files they have ...)

My advice would be for anyone using this Embassy is to be patient (I know its r-e-a-l-l-y hard!) and continue to follow-up with them on the status of your file.  The Embassy only accept correspondence via email and fax.  If you go to the Embassy they tell you to send a fax or email.  So don't bother going and waiting in line just to be turned away.

For the men who had to participate in the mandatory military service, that military check seems to hold things up a little bit.

Actually the DMP sends the medicals to the RMC in Port of Spain.

Are you sure the medical goes to the port of spain cause I was under the impression that the guatemala office took care of the following countries and when my husband had to list the office on the medical he had to put down Guatemala. My husband is from Nicaragua so I could be wrong when it comes to Costa Rica.
